having driven and sp18 owning a bg sp i will say for certain that the bj has ****loads of more usuable torque ... the SP is dismal down low but if you know how to launch it you can eat most things ... as for above 100 dunno ... dont go there ... thats speeding and i have 1 point :p

wow i didn't realise the V6 Hardtop was almost 100kg heavier than the 1.8

Hatch weights (from official Mazda spec sheet) fyi

1.8 manual - 1135kg
1.8 auto - 1115kg
V6 manual - 1205kg
V6 auto - 1240kg

1100 according to the sticker on my window :D

ello there

i wanted to see how fast my bj1 was, so tonight i blutacked my phone to the wheel and filmed myself 0-100kph...then i could time the vid afterwards. i did 2 runs and i reckon 9.5sec was what i got! just what gav said, and i think that is the factory spec aswell :D

sounds about right I have done it acouple of times i have seen 9 flat and i have seen 11s and 10s depending on launches and gear changes, my average times were about 9.2 to 9.3.

i noticed the 'dismal down low' thing, dragged a friend to 80kmh from uni today- he had a 90 skyline r31 sedan, not sure if modded, it looked stock but sounded like some cai or something.

so in my good ole' stock bg :p (+regular fuel +4 sound proofing mats-15kg? +uni textbooks +lightweight neons +all windows half down) i was revving at about 1000, but we both took off well (very slight downhill). i think i did about 5600 in 1st, then 2nd all the way to 80, and he seemed to be about 3/4 of a car length infront of me the whole time. :(

but i didnt exactly eat him... was my launch good enough? or do u think he just had more torque than me?

what would u call a 'good launch'? :o

The same goes for the BA V6 also, 8.6s sounds pretty quick if you ask me. Considering the SP20s were only a low 9 and the BJII 1.8s around a mid to high 9...

Those figures just sound a bit ambitious to Australian spec cars,
Gav.

Hold on, lemme see what I can find...

tee hee, couldnt resist! Ignore this.....

My NZ new BG astina GT (no cat factory) did 0-100kmh in around 8.5 secs
cannot prove it...but my BPT now does 0-100 in around 6seconds flat (traction issues)

geetee 09-04-2006 07:48 AM

i don`t think 8.5 secs to 100 kmph should be a problem in mine.....

i`m going dragging tomorrow, so be prepared for some videos. :D

geetee 11-04-2006 08:34 AM

videos now up in the lounge.......

includess a groovy dial shot. :D
