HMT's '93 BG - Resurrection

Hi again,

just wanted to show you the story of my winter car.
Bought it by accident in early 2007 - late night fooling around on ebay - for 21 EUR.
As i found out later, it had at least 3 accidents in its life. That's what it looked like:

Put it into my tiny garage at the time and started collecting parts

WOW what a nice restoration effort. Looks very nice.

so fresh 15-01-2010 09:14 AM

omg that was an awesome restore from start to finish.
good work mate.:):):)

derb 15-01-2010 06:34 PM

bloody brilliant mate, looks awesome with the snow sprayed up the back.

BULLET 20-01-2010 05:00 AM

That looks good from start till now
Anything else planned for it
Wish mine was that clean!

HMT 20-01-2010 07:45 AM

Not really, no. Was thinking about swapping the engine but i actually like it as it is now. No need to change anything. All that's left to do is proper maintenance.

RibZe 20-01-2010 04:04 PM

How long and how much much did all of this take?

Awesome job.

Heated seats!!!

HMT 20-01-2010 06:01 PM

Uh, well, most of it happened between April and August 2007 - when learning for graduation, i took half the days off to relax while working o the car :)
I spent about 1000€ for parts n stuff, so it's really a cheap thrill...
The detail work happened later on...

If you turn filter down then donīt needed to build wall. Thatīs why I turned filter down. If you donīt understand tat I mean, I can but some pictures how I place the filter. Only let me know.

mikey_something 22-03-2010 07:59 AM

thats some intense footwell lighting there!
does that get distracting?

i thought my blue ones would but that looks really intense

Clean_Cookie 22-03-2010 09:48 AM

quick question, how did you get the aircon/fan controls completely evenly blue! i want to change mine from the green but dont want bright spots, yours is brilliant! well done! also love the dials :)

HMT 22-03-2010 04:48 PM

Cheers :) The heater control was easy since it's just a EL glow dial placed over the unit.
As for the light intensity, that's only a matter of photography - in real life not distracting at all!

Clean_Cookie 22-03-2010 05:22 PM

where the heck did you get that! looks sweet! very envious of it all lol

spenaroo 22-03-2010 08:20 PM

no, the uv ones that were in my brothers commodore was distracting, the strobe lights hidden in the kidney grills, were also distracting.

shaikaka 16-04-2010 09:59 AM

well done on the restore. It's good to see people still see the potential in the old astinas.

NaughtyGT 16-04-2010 10:07 AM

awesome revamp dude! ;)

Ghoru 16-04-2010 10:42 AM

awesome revamp, spent about an hour looking at the photos and drooling lol. where do you live so i can steal your instrument cluster?

mussing 16-04-2010 03:22 PM

That thing is tops, very impressive restoration.

Out of interest, do you have any more information on your front lip? I have the same one (photos in reader's ride) but don't know much about it.

HMT 17-04-2010 11:12 PM

Cheers guys.
The lip is from a german company called Foha - you could order it from your mazda dealer around here...

BGSP 23-04-2010 06:51 PM

Very nice, it looks amazing.

astina basic 26-11-2010 02:37 PM

How can you change the dash / speedometer and add light inside?

Cool convertible 10-03-2014 12:59 PM

Hey Man, hopefully you're still around these forums.. if not can anyone else tell me:
How do you convert the dash instruments to white and do the lights and such?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Simon

HMT 10-03-2014 07:12 PM

I am indeed - was just surprised about the thread necromancy :)
It's fairly easy - you could buy new illuminated dial facia that you could juyt put on top of the original dials. I then only painted the needles and changed illumination to red bulbs.

Hey mate, don't know if you're still around here, i was just wondering how did you colour your rocker/valve cover? Is it powder coated? or did you spray it yourself?

And how much did it set you back? (If you don't mind me asking)

The car came out beautifully, well done!

Cheers

HMT 06-09-2014 07:07 PM

Thanks mate. I think i just sanded it down and sprayed it with brake caliper paint.

HMT 28-06-2018 08:05 PM

Sooo, it ain't dead yet!
Gave the car to my mom in 2014 and just got offered to have it back since she bought a replacement.
It has had a bit of a rough life but does not look like a lost cause. Those pics are the last ones from a few years ago:
http://www.project-l.com/images/asti...15/resto06.jpg
http://www.project-l.com/images/asti...15/resto05.jpg

Unfortunately i crashed it a bit during a winter touge session so the front end is only minged roughly into shape. Would require a new front mask in addition to brake lines, brakes, gaskets and some minor rust removal.

Still, how could you say no to this face?
http://www.project-l.com/images/asti...15/resto33.jpg

Atm I'm chewing on the idea of getting it registered as historic vehicle in 2024...
