Engine cooling for bp turbo
Guys,
This is what ive done so far to cool lower my engine temperature: 1. Upgrade to two tube aluminum radiator with coolant 2. Upgrade fans 3. Thermal wraps on exhaust pipes 4. Hood scoops It doesn't seem to be enough when i do hill climbs and still puts my temparature guage at 75%. Two questions: is this normal? Secondly, what else can i do to lower engine temp significantly? |
have u changed ur rad cap???
|
Rad cap and thermostat are easy checks and replacements, it could be the fins on the water pump have corroded down too.
|
Thanks, Derb.
Rad cap is new. Water pump is new and stock to bp. |
Thermostat then, i'd think. Radiator hoses?
|
check if your gauge and temp sensor are correctly reading/working also
|
Hi Rup, thanks for chiming in.
Hoses are new. Thermostat has been removed to set the coolant flowing all the time. |

Make sure you also check the flow rate of the water moving around as any restrictions/blockages could be causing heat issues... also if ambient temp is high then things will be running alot hotter and especially if your running a monster turbo/engine package that generates alot of heat.
|
Put the thermo stat back in.

Im not sure if the stock bp water pump can handle the huge two tube radiator but is there a way to upgrade it? Improve flow rate? |

At high rpm the water may be going through the radiator too quick to cool properly. Easy to check if cold pipe is hot or not after touge run.
Water pump should be fine if it is in working order. |
Very interesting. Its worth a try then. Thanks
Would this be the same reason why my temp goes up to 75% on the gauge if i turn my ac to full? (Shifting at 2k rpm) |
the condenser would be rejecting heat from hot refrigerent inside which sits in front of your rad so could be
|
Do you have a pick of you setup?
|
I plan to stay at a 200whp for a year or two and upgrade internals to boost upto 300 whp. This is why i need to solve for the temperature issue first.
|
You only got 200whp? For some reason I was thinking you have a big turbo big hp engine. I've seen stock BPTs and VJ20s push those figures out. And don't have any cooling issues what so ever. Now I'm curious as to your issue. 200whp doesn't require any extra cooling mods from stock parts. So you've got a problem there somewhere.
Must be time to hook up a aftermarket temp gauge and really do some digging for answers. |

Thanks for seeing my problem thru. I can't boost up or advance any further because of the heat. Its like a chicken and egg scenario. Thanks for the assurance. Bottom line, thermo stat and aftermarket gauge is something to look into. Outside of these, is there anything else that i should look into? |
Water pump and blockages as previously stated. Something is reallt amiss. You have a full size radiator? Are you able to post up a pick of you cooling system setup?
