What Antivrus Software Do You use?

I use malwarebytes which is excellent & cheap
i also have spybot search & destroy

Free: Avast
Paid: Kaspersky

I've had an account with Kaspersky for the last 3 years and have never been infected. I run the same program on my parents machine and for people who have no internet savvy they have never been infected either. If you can afford it, I would highly recommend Kaspersky AntiVirus. I don't even bother with their Internet Suite because the normal AV is excellent.

phildough 18-01-2012 09:13 AM

Personally I don't use anti virus software, I also have never picked up a Virus whilst surfing the net either.
But I would consider myself an advanced computer user and I also know how to fix them.
I would recommend the Microsoft security essentials over AVG as I see a lot of computers with AVG and viruses. Also AVG drives me nust with its constant reminders of the paid better version.
I would never use norton but as far as paid goes I would recommend Trend or Kaspersky.
But the user must be the primary form of AV on a PC as AV software is only as good as its database.

1. Kaspersky [the anti-rootkit removal tool is a must!]
2. Avast!
3. Microsoft Security Essentials
4. Clamwin [if you need a free AV for a server]
5. Spybot [to supplement your AV]

Nothing on the Mac, as barely anyone cares to write anything for a Mac

E-scan on the Lamborghini

I use norton360 and malware antibytes. I have never accidentally picked up a virus, when I did it was a calculated risk lol

Really? Your going to trust a cracked exe to protect your from virsues.*shrug* Your loss if something blows up in your face.

I dont use anything on any of my pcs anymore. Mostly cause I hardly never use windows anymore.

agreed, i dont have any on my machine. however i am the opposite in that i would recommend AVG over Microsoft Security Essentials. to be fair i havent given it a fair go mostly because i *hate* the windows firewall with a passion. its come a long way since XP, but i still find it a chore, and thus i stay away from microsoft for my security needs.

exactly, and my 2018 license for my parents AV is a testimony to that. :p

i've always found norton to be a resource hogging waste of space... has it changed? it came pre installed on my parents computer and i quickly removed it. the last version i would have used would be norton 2008 i think.

i don't think theres any added risk in using a cracked version? the worst that can happen is you'll boot up one day and it'll say "this is an expired serial". i would expect that letting you *believe* the AV was working as intended even though it wasnt because you cracked it would open up the company to a law suit in the case of data loss.
the same as the burglar suing u because he tripped down your stairs whilst flogging your TV

are u searious? what is the diffrence between a cracked page of script that allows you to use the software without paying and a payed for page of script?

answer: u get stooges by paying for one :)

also all nortan users out there, untill 360( which still isn't amazing) I would of told u that it's not that ur computer has no viruses it's that your crapy program cannot find the virus!

70NYD 18-01-2012 06:35 PM

Norton 360 is heavy and it's not that great, but I don't really care. Malware does a good backup job, and I have more than enough ram :)

Ben 18-01-2012 06:44 PM

None, have a Mac.

I got trend micro running on dads laptop

Jastel 18-01-2012 06:59 PM

Nothing but Microsoft Security Essentials..... nil problems for 2 years. I ran Norton's before that and had nil problems too but it hogged resources.

marcs_sp20 18-01-2012 07:32 PM

AVG Free & Microsoft Security Essentials on both the Home PC & laptop, havent had a drama..

project.r.racing 18-01-2012 07:51 PM

Nod32 av4

They will counter sue. Though personally I don't think the arguement wouldn't hold up.

What your both forgetting is that your implicitly relying on the honesty of people who are making cracks to get around licensing agreements. Whos to say theres isnt something piggy backing?

You don't need two AV programs, the fight for control and slow your PC.
Get rid of one and install Malwarebytes instead.

TheMAN 18-01-2012 09:49 PM

malwarebytes only does so much as it specialises only in rootkits and spyware, just like Adaware (which was crap for years but their recent version had been very impressive and beats Malwarebytes in some ways)... it's actual virus detection is limited compared to the big boys.... plus you have to PAY in order to get real time detection

MSE is good, free, and lightweight... as far as free goes
but it is NOT as good as AVG 2011 in detection... I spent hours going over reviews and youtube videos of actual tests and AVG 2011 blew MSE out of the water... sure it is more resource intensive, but it wasn't bad once you cut down on the bloat (custom install)... it finally beats Avast as it is starting to show a bit of long teeth
like I said... AVG Free used to be crap, but their 2011 version caught back up and trumped Avast and Avira... I now recommend it as the free antivirus if your system has the resources for it... otherwise, MSE is better than nothing!

but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay... free antivirus only gets you so far and IMO gives you a false sense of security

I much prefer enterprise grade paid antivirus software... it's usually cut down on useless dialogues, it also has greater user control and detection schemes

Norton has been a resource hog for years, and Symantec Endpoint wasn't much better either... but the very new one that just came out late last year... version 11.1 is fantastic! It uses LESS memory than MSE, LESS CPU intensive than MSE, and is very strong... I saw a russian review of it and since I couldn't understand what the bloke was saying, I just watched what happened... he intentionally infected a system way beyond hope, but he was able to install Endpoint 11 on there and wipe out most of the crap (which traditionally required multiple scanners to do so much)... he used other antivirus software (the major competitors) and they didn't fair as well
