Hey guys, just thought you might be interested after everyone asking me how my astina goes now that I got a good engine.

Yeah VF10 at 12psi. you got a VF8 don't ya?
How much the pump cost you that your running in yours? Was it hard to install? This proves you don't need a bit turbo and big boost to make power. :wink: |
Mines a hybrid with a 15R housing so basically a VF10 :)
Pump was $250 IIRC. Straight in tank replacement but im starting to notice some pick up issues when the tank is low. Still not happy with the tune in the ECU atm. Going to get it remapped by another tuner. |

By Bigger Plenium you mean bigger than the GTR one you put on ???

With the pump, you basicaly can use any intank pump from bigger motor cars, for example I used a 180sx intank pump, all you have to do is use the existing cratle, not veryhard to do, and it woun't cost you $250 dollars, always good to save some money. These pump are good for 300+ hp easy.

Mal - The GTR plenum isn't any bigger than the GTX. It has better flow....because of this, it's probably got a lesser capacity than the GTX.
TURBO MAZDA - I've already upgraded my fuel pump to a S15 200SX/Silvia pump. Combined with a Malpassi with a bas pressure of 39psi and rising up to 60psi, it's not suppying me with the volume I need to run more than 15psi boost. Even though mine was rated at 220Kw, it's not up to the job when put into practice. |
Walbro pump will do the trick. Model number 10258. Be interested to know how you go with the Malpassi as im running the std fuel reg and having some rich issues. Debating whether to go to an adjustable reg or not.
When your cruising, do you notice a rich spot around 0psi? |

Yeah, as I said, the GTR manifold wasn't a size upgrade, so it's its capacity that's letting me down. :( But as you can see with the figures, everything has excellent flow otherwise I don't think that the power I got with the boost set, would have been achievable.

The bigger the plenum the more the turbo has to work to fill the available volume between the intake spool and the cylinder chamber. In an NA or draw through setup I'd agree that the plenum plays a big part in the power equation. I'd be more interested in the size and length of the intake runners to develop power at a predetermined rev range than the bigger is better BS.

OK, I'm taking advice from a guy that manage to tune 197HP @ 12psi with a VF10 turbo. Now everyone Ive talked to says that those figures are an excellent result. So really, I'd have to say that this guy know's his ****.
He is heavily involved with all codes of racing whether it be drag, circuit or rally. He's spent untold hours tuning cars on the dyno and knows what works and what doesn't. One of the things that he said, to contradict what you said, Cosmo, was aftermarket runners for intake is a waste of time. He has tested on numerous cars be it NA or turbo, and now has a dude making aftermarket plenums on standard runners due to a better performance result. I agree that bigger isn't better, when taken to extreme, but a standard BP turbo plenum is WAY to small. If a plenum wasn't required, you'd have an extractor type setup going straight into the engine. But again, your beef is with a lag result, not a high end rpm power increase result. Yes a big plenum would be **** for everyday driving, but lag is nothing that can't be acheived with a lauch control setup (easily done with the LT8) so when you take off, the plenum is already filled, and then the benifits will take over. |
I take my information from many people, circuit racers, drag racers, sprint racers, street performance people. I take what I can and apply it in my own projects. If the runners are not important then explain high rise manifolds.
If a plenum is too small then it can restrict performance but by its self it isn't the magic wand that this thread is based on. |

OK What size injector you running ??
I have dam big injector i no there over 500 may even be close to 600, can't remember exactly to long ago now, will find out. |

Depending on what power your after, those injector will not be Sufficient for more power then your making now.
