ABOUT: BA Astina - what are MY headlight blub sizes?

hey guys, I'm thinking of getting HID soon, but i needto know what size my headlights are... i did a search and most ppl say it's H3, but i remember someone saying that one of their headlights were replace, so there were 2 different sizes.

how can i confirm what size i have by looking at them? where do i look for the details of the siize?

cheers

chris

H3

Dogo 19-10-2004 08:58 PM

i had one of each. it was possibly me that you're rembering. However each light cluster was visibly different too. One must have been a dodgy clone.

H3 is normal, ummm unless you can find a pic of each style on the internet somewhere your best bet would be to take them into an auto store and compare to the selection there. The different styles are different when looking at the metal ring and wire connections at the back of the bulb.

Just remember that if you touch the glass of a bulb you can't use it again due to the oils on your fingers.

thanx for the quick response guys...

so what is the best way to handle the bulb, would wraped in tissuse be alright or would the fiberss from the tissues stick onto the glass and stuff it up afterwards?

twilightprotege 19-10-2004 10:50 PM

just handle the bulb by the plastic end. however, easier said than done

I discovered that the Astina Manual Handbook has the correct globe specifications in it, also it is on the actual headlight unit as slightly raised text. If you need a scan of the handbook i'll be more than happy to email it to you if you don't have the manual.

When i replaced my globes i needed one set of H1 and H3.

and when removing it, is it like those skill testers where u can't touch the sides or u lose? will that damage the blub aswell??

anyway i found pics of the different sizes, hopefully it's work.

hey adam, what did you mean by one set of H1 and H3? I"m a bit confused by that..
if the actual headlight unit has the raised text with the details then i should be alright, well ask you if i have any problems and need the manual...
thanx mate.

Depends on the year.

The S1 has 2xH3 and 2xH1
The S2 uses all H1s I believe

I have 1 headlight from each series as it was replaced by a panel beater.

So i need 1xH3 and 3xH1

If we catch up Dave we should swap a headlight so we got two of the same :)

Dogo 20-10-2004 09:53 AM

it was the v6 that had the funny lights jimbo - so no can do :)

Rupewrecht 20-10-2004 11:23 AM

i was surprised to find that the projector lights i have in now use H7s!

Yeh, Theo ran into a bit of trouble when changing the globes for his car.. I have a S2 and needed 2xH1 and 2xH3, it's a march build so i think it's the period where they started making the series 2's.. HOWEVER! my book and the top of the headlamp assembly says that both normal and high beams are H1's.. but one wouldn't fit.. strange.

Hi Guys,

Great pics! (I was getting confused with all the H1,2,3 talk). I need to replace my globe too, but I don't want to get crappy ones since i found they dont last long. Anyone know where I can find a pair of Narva lights for my Mazda 323 V6 ('97). At the moment I use H1's, but in the past they were H3's. Is that normal that they take both for the normal beam?

Thanks,
Ana

Could you change the actual globe plug on the headlights cause the Hardtops headlights blow goats..

I wouldnt mind putting Commonwhore sized globes in =D

Banana_Chick 14-06-2005 08:40 PM

Guess what guys!?

I bought the Narva +30's! (Yes, it is exciting!) And they make a big difference to my vision! So anyone that is deciding what brand to buy, go for the Narva's! I only paid $14 or so for the white beam from Repco, and they are great!!

hey guys, sorry for bumping such an old topic..

but i have a 97 1.8L BA Astina Hard-Top.. and what i gathered from this topic is that i need 2x H1 and 2x H3 globes to replace the ones in the car.. before i run out to buy some, i just want to make sure that thats right!

and also Im assuming H1 is normal and H3 highbeam? or is it vice versa?

Rupewrecht 03-07-2006 02:28 PM

On the top of each headlight it will say what type they are, printed into the black part of the casing.

And from reading above, H1 = normal and H3 = high

CityEnd 03-07-2006 02:59 PM

i thought i had a pic of where to look on the headlight for the actualy globe size, but can't seeem to find it anyway...

but it should be h3 = normal, h1 = high

Tom 03-07-2006 03:05 PM

thanks guys!

what about the watt-age?

i just been looking online for some (im at work at the moment so i cant check the car now) and there are different Watts..

for example here:
http://www.modyourcar.com.au/product...oducts_id=2572 - 100W
http://www.modyourcar.com.au/product...oducts_id=2578 - 55W

Ah my bad. Too long since i've had standard lights!

Standard wattage is 55W

100s *might* melt the plastics inside the lights. Your risk.

You could always go for some Narva +30s which are a decent amount brighter that standard bulbs
