SP20 suspension
Looking for advice on replacing my suspension setup as I'm still on stock at 150k. Local kmart tyre joint quoted $1800  at my last service- they're definately having a go.
I bought the car already lowered on Kings and the ride is not great to say the least. Narrowed it down to 2 choices atm. KYB struts with Eibach Pro Kits or the Tokico HP blue Kit Is the KYB and Eibach combo ok or should I go with better struts? Alternatively I'm thinking of just getting higher springs as I'm not that worried about looks and more after a better quality ride. |
Kris/ice88 has just pulled out his near new Espilir Spring & Tockico struts and replaced them with coilovers, might be best to PM him to see if he will let them go ;)
KYB/Eibach combo is nice and comfy, Mad Mat had this combo in his SP20 before he sold it, nice & firm yet comfy. |
my mate has the tokico kit... it rides very nice, lowers a good amount, and handles pretty good... it's one of the few stiffer springs you can still get.... many other stiffer ones like espilir are no longer available
Thanks guys. So the tokico kit would be a little rougher on bumps etc? The roads around my joint are pretty ****e :/
no, not really.. even on rough roads, the ride was compliant... the springs are well matched to the struts... firm, but not harsh
oh and with many BJ springs like this one, part of the rear coils are spaced closed together... they are dead coils or what would be considered "helper coils" / "tender coils" in coilover speak.... if you do not fit a silencer rubber around these coils, you will experience a clunking sound in the back... it's due to these coils banging against each other... it took me over a month to figure out this issue on my car with mazdaspeed springs!

I'm running kings on koni adjustables and find the ride still good, sounds like your shocks may be the issue.
Yeah the shocks are pretty worn. Cheers for the advice fellas
If your interested my springs and struts were brand new about 4-5000km ago :)

One other problem I've had is that the front tyres are wearing ridiculously fast on the inside. I'm thinking when it was lowered they haven't adjusted the camber at all. What would I need to buy to fix this? |
Wheel alignment
Not camber it's the toe... Get an alignment. After I lowered mine I ate my tyres up near new on the outside bald on the inside. Then I crashed... :(
A simple fix, thats good news! Not about the crash though :/ Getting new tyres and alignment on Fri
