Costs for a BPT in BG conversion?

G'day,

This topic may have come up before however I can't really find anything that useful.

I thought there was a post about Formaz or something doing the conversion but i couldn't find that either.

How difficult is it to get a half cut and perform the conversion yourself? Are there any major problems with putting in the BPT in to the bay of a BG? What about engine mounts?

Thanks for your time

Ashlin

The BGs came with either a SOHC 1,8L or a DOHC 1,8L both BP blocks I believe so the conversion should be relatively straight forward.

Half cut your looking around 2000ish depending on the condition of the wreck and motor. If you use the stock goodies you can prob do it for about 3K+

Price goes up from there.

Im doing a conversion in a BA Astina and im hitting around 7-8K so far (which includes a half cut purchase and a spare gearbox). I have alot of extra stuff which will be revealed soon.

My workshop is charging a ballpark figure of 3.5K but im getting a fair bit of custom work done and also includes dyno tuning.

Set a budget and stick to it. Allow 1K extra for uncertanties.

I can't remember where i saw it, but i thought some company was doing the whole lot for $5000 that price included motor. I remember reading it somewhere on here but haven't been able to find it.

have to see the list of inclusions to say whether that was a good price or not.

I easily got to 5K and kept going :) Dont head into the conversion with shallow pockets or youll cut corners and have problems.

Thats the Formaz conversion i was talking about, seems like a pretty reasonable price, though if i could do it myself for alot cheaper i'd prefer to :)

How do those prices sound?

Its not bad... have a talk to a few different workshops and get a rough idea on what they want to charge.
