Granny Spec.

I was in Tasmania - well, Hobart - for most of last week.

Observations:

All Astinas down there are granny spec.
- All BAs are 1.8s, not one V6 to be seen
- they all seemed to have those dodgy stickers up the side that came on the special pack Hyundai Excels
- Roo bars are popular
- the most modified car in tas seems to be the Hyundai Accent...and by modified i mean wheels
- there are sweet FA imports down there - i think i saw about 2 skylines and NO silvias!

all i brought back was a cold. bah

You left your woman there?!?!

AP

Rupewrecht 31-03-2005 05:47 PM

nah, had to fly down there for her fathers funeral :/

KittyKatSmack 01-04-2005 01:47 PM

When we were in Taswegia, we saw quite a collection of riced beasts.... Mind you, we travelled a lot, were outside of Hobart, and covered 3/4 of the island.
Silvia's were dominant at that point.
Maybe it was all the people home for Xmas?

*shrugs*

Roo bars for the Tasmanian Devils!

pr1mo 01-04-2005 06:02 PM

ah man it coulda been targa tasmania time of year you never know :P

Rupewrecht 01-04-2005 06:11 PM

nah, the Targa this year is April 26 - May 1, 2005

mihgt be a good chance to head back there tho...hmmm

chicaboo 01-04-2005 06:33 PM

I was down in Tassie this year for the Taste Of Tasmania that followed on from the Sydaney to Hobart yahct race. Anyhow, I saw a serious looking series 2 Rx7 and a Transam with weird **** hanging out of the bonnet... Most of the 323s I saw were BG hatches too, and not a lot of rice to be seen.
Did you notice you have absolutely no chance of guessing what the next police vehicle is going to be? Generally most of them were blue or silver 4x4s of some nature though...
Did you go for a zap up Mt Wellington? Not the sort of climb that's condusive to taking in the view with such narrow winding roads. And brrrrrr, the temperature brought out the Norwegian in me, it was sleating in Janurary up there!

Gav.

Rupewrecht 01-04-2005 06:41 PM

nah, didnt end up going up Mt Wellington, but did have a look at Mt Nelson and a few other places

ther best place was the Army Reserve officers mess - drinks were SO cheap!
a glass of chardonnay for $2, 2 rum + cokes for $3.50, a can of coke for 70c...thank god taswegans are backwards ;)

chicaboo 01-04-2005 08:29 PM

Mt Nelson? Meh!

Wow, it's like totally still the 70s down there! Could fly down there for a couple of drinks and still save money. I found their local Hartz spring water to be the best healthy choice. But generally I didn't think things were that much cheaper, fuel and movie prices were gastronomical. But it helped when dad owns a takeaway and IGA...

KittyKatSmack 02-04-2005 05:35 PM

*Kitty drove the Bruce up Mt Wellington at a mighty brisk pace*

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeee
on the downhill
but watch out for the cyclists!

chicaboo 03-04-2005 11:58 AM

How much did it cost to get Bruuuuuuucesth across to Tasmania? I rented a car or drove dad's when I was down there...

chicaboo 06-04-2005 06:03 PM

Oh nevermind, I guess you used up all your lifelines...

HOT_323 02-05-2008 11:46 AM

Sounds like you guys were looking in the wrong places, theres so many skylines and sivias here that its boring to look at them, theres two wide body WRX's that i've seen here, one of them rolls on 22s. We all come out when its dark here, next time check out the north end of tassie guys.:)

Rupewrecht 02-05-2008 12:24 PM

Don't forget it's been 3 years since i started this thread!

I must say was hiring an Audi A3 turbo when I was there last, and got given a Pug 307 instead which was a let down....but still zoomed all over the place...and then found a brand new (just released then) WRX hatch in the new shape last year...thought he we go.....I wasn't speeding but was having fun on some bends...they drove like an old grandmother...so I left them behind.

It's actually pretty hard to find jdm an the sort in Tasmania, is why people choose to mod stupid Korean built buckets.
And there's plenty of silvias around, just gotta be in the right place, mowbray in launceston is one.. Think Logan in qld but half as bad.
