BJK's SE20

Most forums are pretty quiet these days, but I figured I'd chuck up a thread here anyway for posterity.

Those with good memories will remember the champagne Protege, my first car, that I wrote off a number of years ago (RIP). For the last year or so I'd been dailying a ****box Corolla Seca I got off a mate for $120, but since the rego was expiring and my main vehicle was going to be undergoing a heart transplant, I figured I'd move that on and find something nicer that I could keep long-term. I'd always wanted to get back into a 323; this one came up for a reasonable price and I jumped on it pretty quickly. I still think the hatch looks better, but the little additions of the SE20 are warming me to the sedan.

Pipe dreams about boosting or KL swapping it lurk in my mind, but it's meant to be the reliable A-to-B commute, so likely it will remain largely untouched save the Evo VII rims I've got in the shed and maaaybe to lower it if I can justify the expense.

Enough yacking, have some pics I snapped this evening.

I like the color but this is one weird rear spoiler ^^
That said, thanks for sharing and fighting the silence :)

It is a bit of an oddball haha. Strangely I think the ride height doesn't do it favours. I rediscovered this spicy orange Protege the other day and I think the whole design looks better closer to the ground.

And cheers. I think forums are a better resource than facebook groups, I've already been trawling about for information.

Nice! The missus has a Protege, and I often think of getting one of these wings for it.

Couldn't agree more - FB is terrible for keeping knowledge. But FB spelled the death of this place a few years ago, except as a resource.

I wouldn't mind the other variant of the Mazdaspeed wing, I think Paige maybe picked one up recently? But there's a lot of things I wouldn't mind that I don't have the cash for haha. Got any Autoexe grilles Rupe?

Over at the FTO club we're frequently re-directing questions asked on the FB group to the forum. There are advantages to the group, but for questions that've been asked a million times already it gets a bit wearisome lol.

Hey dude, welcome back.

And tryst me the wing will grow on you, i remeber seeing my first SE about 12 years ago and was like WTF is that!!!

Now I absolutely love them, they are a perfect gressive oriantation for the protégés:)

Looks super clean man,

Yes FB did kill the forum, and we all know why!! How easy and quick the interactions are with other people and uploading photos is instant, no need for 3rd part sites to get a image code.

I like to look on here every week just to see whats happening see if new people are coming about, progress on peoples cars, anyways enough about me.

Donyou have plans for this very clean looking SE or keeping it stick is and reliable ?

Noble323 22-02-2018 12:00 AM

Nice pick up !
Honestly I like the sedan and personally those rear wings make the car look better and unique. If I had a sedan, that wing will definitely be on !

Nothing major as of yet, wheels and some decent tyres, making sure there aren't any hidden gremlims lol. Maybe in a few years a FS-ZE would be tempting if there are still any decent ones laying around Japan. As much as I'd like to go crazy on it, that's what the FTO is for and my bank balance is already running on fumes!

Orion has the later msp wing on his blue Sp20 and I have one on my titanium 1.8 but they do have to get sourced from the Us or Canada. You would also need another bootlid.

Yeah, that's when it starts approaching the cost/benefit line haha.

HAIGHIE 03-03-2018 12:38 AM

Well if you ever do remove the wing for what ever silly reason, i will buy it off you hahaha.

Might look a little funny on your hatch. ;)

Meanwhile, I was up much too early getting new tyres.

Rears definitely need a slight roll if I want to drive hard, even on stock springs, but otherwise fairly trouble free so far (haven't heard anything up front). Hella rashed Evo VII Enkeis, 17x8 +38 wrapped in some 215/45 RE003s.

If I ever get around to lowering it, would probably opt for a 215/40 or 205/45 I reckon.

Not too much happening here. Long overdue oil change (oops), thanks Jesse for the hookup.

I've been trawling about looking at the shifter bushing options, mostly the Q Ford/Kia nylon bits, just have to figure out where I'm getting them from.

bjk 27-07-2018 11:36 AM

Rear guards rolled so now I can finally chuck it around without worrying about chewing the tyres. Went for a spirited drive to appreciate how good these are out of the box!

Booked in next week to have the bushings changed, gear oil change, clutch and probably brake bleed and just a general check-over.

I love these so much,
Looks great mate, needs to be only 15-20mm lower but looks good

Cheers man :) agreed, needs low haha, but not a major priority atm, just appreciating no tyre-on-fender noises. Maybe own the track I'll chuck some springs and possibly some 3MPS wheels on, was fond of how they looked on Marcs.

ghetto3 05-08-2018 03:38 PM

Agreed with Haighie but looks super neat as is, go crazy keeping that paintwork smooth..

bjk 05-12-2018 09:43 PM

Recently picked up some Magna Ralliart Enkeis, basically the same design as the Evo 7 ones, but 17x7 +46. Will stop it clipping the fender at the rear, and give me more clearance for whenever I chuck in the KYB springs that are coming from Rupe. Haven't noticed any really major handling differences, although I suspect that maybe since the sidewall of the tyre is less stretched, it's softening out the ride just a tad; could be my imagination though.

Gave it a wash and took some snaps at the usual vacant lot.

Looks mighty fine, will look sweet once the ride height comes down :D

Cheers :) Yeah not gonna lie I'm pretty keen for it too. I might have to try and sell some stuff that's sitting in the garage to accelerate the time they go in, all my other money is pretty tied up with various FTO-related shenanigans.
