What Speakers For A Sp20
Ok i'll be doing the system soon just need to know what size fits in the front and back doors are they 6inch or 6.5inch?and the orignal deck i'll be taking out but will be left with heaps of room after putting my new pioneer deck in,i was thinking of putting like a small type shelf under the pioneer deck so where the voloume button and tune button is on the orignal deck. When that comes out what's behind it?is there a shelf already or not?and is it a two piece on orignal deck?please help thanks :)
hey man the front n bac speacker are both 6.5" inch n the head deck is all 1 unit but wen u put in an new head unit u can get a pocket filler which can b a shelf type thing or even an 6 cd holder...that or wot u can do is get an in-dash tv on the top n the head unit on the bottom like wot i have got...
Ok where do i buy the pocket filler from and is there different types for different models?or do they all fit :)
the front stock speakers are 5x7 and u will have to made a mdf bracket to fit 6.5"
front pocket filler u can buy from mazda..i think thats wot critter did...and it wasnt overly expensive, something like $14. |
ive got 6.5" jaycar splits in my front doors...you NEED the spacer for window clearance and to beef it out so the cone/basket can fits in the existing hole...
i used 9mm mdf, i think 12mm would be the max! if you get splits, the crossover is a whore to mount in the door...i only found one spot it could go without chopping up **** :P |
Those pix tell a good story.
You can certainly make a spacer/adapter to make up to 6.5" dia speakers fit in the front doors, 9mm is about right: behind the door trim grille so there is room for speaker excusion. As above, there is quite good depth in the doors for proper speakers. Any number of choices. have used quite a few speakers, mounting depth up to about 68mm is OK with 9mm spacer. Pockets to go with the single DIN head unit are from your Mazda dealer and not expensive. Sound deadening the doors is WELL worthwhile, heaps more solid "kick". There is also decent room under front seats in our cars for a respectable amp. If you want proper sound, head units from ANY source are ordinary compared to a decent amplifier. |
Hey Chris
Do you recognise where the first photo was taken? |
Thanks for those pictures looks easy
Head scratch, no sorry I don't.......
its at martys place. Thought you may have recognised it.
LOL I do now!
and if you cared the sedan has the spaces in the rear speakers, but has 6x9 in the rear shelf....
I keep thinking about putting a set in the rear..but splits in the front would be better
I dont know which ones to get 4 way or 2 way speakers in 6inch the pioneer ones
get some splits.
I've actually used 5x7 Alpine splits in the front of mine, tweeters mounted on the dash (almost the only way to get good seperation and clarity). With speakers mounted so low in the door, if you actually want decent sound (read: clarity) you really need to get splits. As Critter said there is plenty of room under the seats for almost any amp you'll be using to power your door speakers. I actually found a good solid mount underneath the centre console for a good clean ground connection.
The biggest pain is cutting the door wire connectors to feed through some decent cabling. |
i'm going to buy 6inch there round and pioneer and blue but it says on the box 2 way or 4 way which ones i dont know much about speakers
It might just be easier if you tell us the model number of the speakers......

I just want the speakers in the front and rear doors i dont want the tweeters or the other stuff just need to know what ones to get to put in the doors out of the ones below ive always used these speakers in all my other cars in the front and rear doors but i dont remember if they were 2 way or 4 way :)

imo, 2 way. 4 ways are gimmicks
Ok so out of the first three speakers which are the yellow ones 2 way do i get the first one with 280 watts or either the other two with 260 watts?
if you're getting an amp, the top one, if not, the 2nd one
Ive got a amp a mono block pioneer one thanks for your help :)
mono block for those speakers???
The reason i bought a mono block is because i use to have 2 pioneer subwoofers in a box and i had to get the mono block so the amp could handle the power of the subs
I have now got a Pionner mp3 cd player with one pioneer sub in the box the mono block amp and just need the speakers
Forgive me if i'm wrong but I was of the opinion that monoblocs only had 1 channel and are hence only used for powering amps since the sound produced from them are non-directional
The monobloc is perfect for the sub you already have but you will need a 2 channel amp to power your speakers Also i think your car has 5x7 oval speakers in the front doors, only the rear speakers are 6.5 inchs. This means if you want to put 6.5 inch speakers in the front as well you'll be needing to make a spacer to make a round speaker fit into a oval hole This website has tons of helpful information on car audio installation http://www.caraudioaustralia.com |

To put it simply, you need 2 2-channel amps or 1 4-channel amp to run any higher powered speakers. That is if you want to do it properly. Otherwise you'll just end up screwing the speakers. Unless you buy smaller powered speakers you'll be lucky to get much of a gain. Sure some of the frequencies will sound better, but in the end its not worth it. I haven’t seen a head unit that could claim 20WRMS per channel and the speakers you are looking at are rated at between 2 – 3 times that.
And not wanting the tweeters? I hate to say it but you’ll be disappointed without them. Jump in a car with a decently placed component system and then get in one with integrated speakers in the bottom of the door. If you don’t notice a massive difference you’ve got hearing problems! |
You can put the tweeters of a split or component system on the inside of the door mirrors and they are out of the way, just aim them across the car. Works decently well.
As I am in the wholesale side of the biz, pm me if you want some help, WuVoou. |

sounds like you were happy with your last steup so no point in changing a thing. Just keep it all the same :) |
The guy knows what he's doing so i'll just leave it to him
The guy has done my brothers car today, and he looked at mine and told me to get the speakers in the front doors dont worry about the back doors instead have 6 x 9's in the parcel shelf cause it will sound much clearer.Has anyone got 6 x 9's in there car what does it sound like?
rear speakers are pure fillers. parcel shelf speakers will sound better because they use the boot area as an enclosure and increase the bass. with a sub woofer, there will be no difference between parcel shelf speakers and rear door speakers
