1996 Astina BA Matte Black
Hey everyone, time to introduce my ride. The car will be a complete stealth look car, and everything I am going to be doing will be keeping that in mind.
Car Specs: Mazda Astina 180se (BP 1.8L DOHC 16 Valve) Engine: - Engine overhauled about 35 000km ago (this included new bearings, gaskets, seals, pistons, rings, oil pump, water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulleys, head overhauled, clutch, pressure plate and so forth) - Induction kit - Mild cams - Vernier pulleys - The head is ported - Powerflow Branches (4-2-1) - Powerflow stainless steel exhaust system Suspension & Handling: - BC-Racing coil-over suspension - Front strut brace Wheels & Tyres: - 17" black Lenso wheels Interior: - Pretty much stock (This is where the next load of work is going to be) Exterior: - Anti smash & grab window tint - LED Park lights - Crystal indicator lights on fenders - Lamin-X on most lights - and the subtle complete matte black vinyl wrap ;) Excuse the shoddy images, but I'll be taking some more soon enough and update. http://i43.tinypic.com/105p1kp.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/14xgykx.jpg A fair bit of smaller jobs will be following and I'll happily post the progress here. Mainly it is going to be on the interior, but here is a preliminary wishlist. - Full interior reupholster - Possibly new front seat install (not racing for now, but comfortable) - Amp and speaker install, current Pioneer headunit does not fir the stealth profile, possibility of going double DIN with GPS - Theme for interior might be focused around MOMO and MOMO products, I've always been a fan, so red and yellow accents around the majority of black - Reverse audible indicators or camera, visibility is pretty limited on the Astina despite being a compact car - Aerial install on the windscreen as the matte black vinyl required bodywork to be smoothed nicely and the aerial was just in the way, read ugly, and had to go - USB port installation in the armrest Sure I will think of more :) |
NICE!
the matte vinyl wrap looks sweet. |
Looks sick!
How much did the vinyl set you back? |

how did you go wrapping around near the C pilars? did you just do a overlap of 2 sheets there?

Nice! Is it hard to keep the surface of the matte wrap clean?

Pretty much something with the least amount of chemicals. |
So like $400 aud for a professional wrap. Here it's almost 3000!

Yeah it would probably still be a few hundred in materials. Most wages are between 20 and 35 for trades.

A complete car respray cost me R15,000 or AUS$ 1500 2 years ago. Yeah definitely cheaper labour here.

Really wanted to take some good photos the weekend for you guys, but I didn't because I was too busy driving :) Snapped this when I got home though.

Consindering if I should Lamin-X the headlights too. |
Had some time this weekend to install a bit more sound in the car.
So I had quite a bit of fun mounting this in, https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-l...202-WA0000.jpg And these speakers https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-O...131_220534.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-E...131_220602.jpg Did not actually get to take one of the final install, will follow soon enough. :) I've never been one for subs, and losing bootspace. So for me it is just about a good amount of clean sound I can turn up when I feel like it. This does the job very well. Made for some good road tripping. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-j...1222346126.jpg |
Car looks great mate. I love seeing Astinas all over the world.

Wow, this matte black vinyl wrap looks superb. I am just a big fan of matte finished vehicle wraps because they give a classy look. For my own car I too would be installing a matte wrap. If you have any tips or suggestions please share here.
