the same old q, just need confirmation

hey guys,
i seem to be posting alot of q here, and always seem to get the answers i need.
so mind me every now and again, if i repeat any previously answered threads, just trying to get the astina running 110% before doing any serious power mods.

So anyways here goes, when setting the base idle (cos i have been hearing many variations in the steps, just want to know which is the correct way)

Case one
1. warm engine up, and switch off
2. bridge GND & TEN , and then start car,
3. wait for the idle to settle, and then adjust the idle air screw
4. switch car off, and remove jumper
5. restart and check if the adjustment was correct

Case Two
1. warm car up and let it idle, while bridging the GND &TEN
2. adjust idle air screw
3. remove jumper, and then switch the off then restart to check adjustment was correct.

NB, Some people have even told me to unplug the IAC connector cable whilst the jumper is in, and then reconnect once idle is set.

SO please help guys, which method above is the correct way? or if I have missed out anything, please advise. and is there any truth to removing the IAC connector cable whilst setting the base idle.

thanks for the help guys
much appreciated.

Kind regards

Case two, do not unplug IAC connector. Have you checked for diagnostic codes?

Also, after getting diagnostic codes, try doing a full ECU reset (disconnect battery negative and press brake pedal for 20sec), drive around for 15mins (do a few kickdowns) and then reset your idle if need be and check for codes again.

@Sinewave, thanks man, ill stick to method2 from now on. could you pls advise as to what exactly is a kickdown?

A question just btw, where do most astinas idle ? 750ish? i notice with mine i can only get i to idle at 750 when the idle air screw completely closed.as soon as i open (loosen the screw just a bit, it the idle shoots up to around 900/950ish. is this normal?
with my bro's astina, his one idle very disciplined at 750, even if you open the air screw abit.
is this something i should worry about?
