Rebuild Engine Pinging/Knocking

Hi Guys...
I need help with my Astina '97 model please. 180se
I recently rebuild my engine, head skimmed, new head gasket, valve stem seals replaced with Victor Reinz seals and replaced all piston rings (Hastings).
Timing spot on but the car pings like hell, tried retarding, advancing etc nothing helped so i decided to remove the head for inspection and found out that all four pistons had burnt oil on them. Some guys says that only original valve stem seals to be used I checked no blue, white or black smoke from tailpipe. The car idles erratically with a slight misfire as well and it has a loud tapping noise. it sounds almost like there's no oil...
Any help will be appreciated.

Regards

UPDATE: Rebuild Engine Pinging/Knocking

Hi Guys

I thought to share my experience and to avoid someone else making the same mistake which i did.....I found the problem on why my car was pinging and erratic idling... high oil consumption etc....
It was my mistake :o
I had my compression rings setup wrong. I installed them as 90 degrees from each gap which was suppose to be 180 degrees and I think the rings moved when I adjusted the ring compressor....so oil slipped past the rings into all four cylinders and the engine was very loud as mentioned in my earlier post...

Hope this info can help anyone that is maybe planning to replace piston rings for their first time....

Regards
JonB
