the lines are still there once you take off the mouldings, that's why lots of people do it, and that's why mazda did it with the mazdaspeed versions of the BJs there is a small "step" on the door panel right where the moulding goes... so that's why it still looks good once you take the mouldings off

on the 3, the door panels are just all flat... so taking off the door mouldings just makes it look dull/plain

for me, I wouldn't do it because of car park damages... mine (which are painted from the factory ) has seen its fair share of bumps... they have protected my doors a lot!
