Surely they could put a/multiple toggle switch/gate on the harnesses where they intersect each other to make them parallel or selectable when the engine is switched off?
As for emissions, I reckon you could have a "safe" setting on the 4 stored maps that will easily pass a siffer test. The BJs run rich as it is, I don't see it being a problem...
Errr, insurance... If it can be run in parellel, it can be quickly removed from the car in the even of a writeoff (so you'll lose the harness probably?). It's not exactly the sort of thing that can be easily detected unless someone really knows the car that well. But it will definately set off red lights at a service!
