Convex/flat door mirros

I've been driving my wife's 97 V6 Hardtop since my car is being repaired (anyone else in that hail storm in Coffs Harbour a few weekends ago?). The door mirrors seem a bit weird.

We had a 98 1.8 Hardtop a few years ago and my memory is that the mirrors were larger and the passenger side mirror was convex. The present car has flat mirrors both sides, but the passenger side seems to have some kind of distortion as well as giving a limited rear view.

I had a close up look this arvo and the glass seems to flax a little under pressure so I wonder if there is some way I can put some permanent flex in it to get a wider field of vision.

Anyone had any experience in taking out the glass panel?

Yep,
Grab it at the bottom and pull it out. The glass is removable although they were only sold as complete units.

Thanks, Cosmo. I got it out, but am always a bit careful about pulling on plugged in things for fear of breaking them - dates back to when I was a kid and most things broke in my twelve year old hands.

The glass and surround have a little bit of flex, but not enough to widen the field of view. I thought I might be able to screw something across the back to hold it a slight curve in it.

Looks like I might try fitting a convex piece over the top. I've tried those little add-on mirrors but not found any that don't distort.

Thanks again.

those addon mirrors are crap
you can get yourself a nice set of convex mirrors from NZ, Japan, or UK
I recommend UK because for a series 3 BA, you can get ones from a UK spec CP Premacy which will be a direct fit and you have an aspheric driver side glass

all you need is just the glass and frame (comes together was one from Mazda), not the entire housing.. you keep your stock housing and reuse them unless they're stuffed for some reason
