Feel sorry for me - I've lost all acceleration

It happened this afternoon between 3 and 4pm.

For the last month I've been driving my wife's fun-to-drive manual BA Hardtop V6 while my car has been in the panel shop for repairs after being damaged in a hail storm. This afternoon the panel man called me to say my car was finished.

I got out of my wife's fun machine and into my automatic Subaru Outback. The Outback transmission runs by committee which has a meeting every time it feels the need to change gear.

Waaahh! I want some get up and go again.

I drove an auto Outback for a few weeks a couple of years ago, wasn't a very nice experience. So I do sympathise with you!

The problem with these Soobies. They're heavy. Period! Get a lighter, more spirited car (also recommend manual if 4 cyl) & you'll be laughing

Thanks for the sympathy everyone. I've not driven the V6 much, so the last month has been a bit of fun. That motor loves to rev it up.

The Outback got close to being written off from the hailstorm (my son's car was written off in the same storm), so I was starting to look at the Toyota 86 or Subie BRZ. But AAMI decided it was fixable after all.

Trouble is, I need the station wagon for my work. I need to change jobs.

Funny, my brother lives in Newcastle & bought a white 86GT just a few months ago. Manual 6 speed with the 12:1 comp boxer. Now that's a car If you like the 2 door sports that is. Personally, I'm over coupes........

That's ones for sale...for $65k or something ridiculous like that.

Only doable as a personal import, too.

Everybody wants a Wagon LOL

Problem is not many are fun anymore. To me best was the Holden SS sportswagon in redline edition. Before that some of the rarer Manta? VR/VS HSV wagons because they were light.

Other then a few euro models which are really fragile and in audi's case still heavy- I am not a 4Wd or AWD fan. No many on the market go towards fun. They still aim at luxury and doing a nice cruise job. If one could trust a VW or any of it's variants in Passat or similar size and form you would but they all lack in some areas R36's Go hard but still lack a raw edge.

Only reason I'd still want a SS Sports Wagon with 6.0L - rip it out and fit a LSX 427 OH yeah all Motor.

Subaru's well even in turbo form a liberty lacks some if not a lot of involvement. Motors don't have sweet spot.

The one big thing I miss from my BA v6 is that sweet singing between 5000and 7000rpm.
It's about 0.5 in that range off the 2JZ but it's something that gets you to tingle.

I'd keep that outback not it's all neat just keep it until someone does you the favour.

The funny thing is that when it seemed my wagon was going to be written off and I would be looking for something else, and I started to think about the 86/BRZ, I've seen them all over town.

I had a S15 200SX before the Outback and could easily take on another two door sporty - if it wasn't for the stuff I have to carry around for work.

My friend has an auto Outback and when accelerating gently in 1st it seems to hang on far too long before changing up IMO. I thought it was a fault but maybe it is just a trait then.

Borrowed it a couple of weeks ago and it drives nicely, pulls well and has heaps of room. The fuel economy is pretty good too.....I'd buy one.
