Blanking Plates?

Here's my dumb question for the day: Why does everyone blank out their plates in car pics?
What could someone do with the knowledge of you plates that a passerby couldn't do in the street?

This is a public forum and by its nature it is open for anyone to come in and read any and all posts. If a member was to post details of their vehicle that were possibly illegal then that and their rego is all an unscrupulous police officer needs to issue a defect. It's also a courtesy in this environment as I'm sure your mum doesn't call you 'lamby1986'

oh, so its to stop unscrupulous cops as much as anything else. cuz i was thinking about a criminal, and what could they possibly do with your numberplate. the only think i could think of was being framed for ram raids or something, but they could get that off the street.

It's more about anonymity in general than protection.

also the majority of us have amps and cd changers which will be hidden from view,
or you might be posting a topic like "my alarm doesn`t work" or "here`s my nice new $1000 amp in the boot".
any casually made comment on a forum about your car ,or someone elses, combined with instantly recognisable info, like a number plate, means the theives have less work to do and know what their looking for. they could sell your stereo before they actually nick it!!!!
