why is my clutch shuddering?

I fixed my cold start problem by cleaning the IAC valve. Not a difficult job.
I m having another problem now...argg........:x
After my water hose blew up, hot coolant sprayed everywhere and got into my clutchi presume and its shruddering like crazy in 1, 2 and 3rd gear..its so annoying. i recently had the clutch replaced and its still under warranty. do u guys think that thhe coolant made it shudder or was it just a crap job?
cheers.

it s hard to describe. It located below the throttle body though and has a wire and air tubes connected to it.
last week, my heater hose blew and hot coolant spilt everywhere and my clutch has started to shudder a lot in most gears becasue coolant might have gone inside. It s slowly drying up and getting better, is that normal for coolant to get in a bit? i just had a clutch job done and im not willing to do it again. cheers guys.

I think the coolant incident is mere coincidence.

I had a good friend who had her clutch replaced and the disk had a flaw in it and shudered like crazy. It could also be the clutch cable.

May be the flywheel also, might not have been machined when the clutch was changed so the surface area isnt a clean contact to the clutch disc.

Take it back and tell them its shuddering, should be under warranty.

Clutch shudder is often caused by heat spots on the flywheel where the
metal has tempered so expands differently than the rest of the flywheel
creating uneven areas once the flywheel gets hot. I had it bad after I
used a **** clutch which couldn't handle the power of my turbo and would
slip like crazy which really heated up the flywheel. After 3 machining's its
better, I should have replaced it but am planning on changing gearboxes
and running a larger flywheel and clutch. I found that cold it would be fine/better
but after 5 mins was to the point I thought I was going to break something.
I dont think the coolant is the cause gearboxes run with water splashing on them
all the time, every time it rains and you go through puddles etc. Take the car to the place
that did the clutch work, dont mention the heater hose and get a please explain.
Did they machine the flywheel when you had the work done.

Regards

Mal

not that it should, but if u get a hot flywheel wet then it can warp / make worse hot-spots.

same rule applies to brake discs btw

how did coolant get inside the clutch ? isnt that sealed ?

Splashing some coolant on the bell housing shouldn't get the clutch wet, it sounds like a co-incidence.
Take it back under warrantee, don't mention the coolant or anything else and have them take a look at it. If the parts or labour are faulty they’ll just have to wear it.

hi guys, thanks a lot for your suggestions. Actually, it was a friend of mine who did the clutch job(he `s a professional mechanic and he owns his own garage). He also fixed my heater hose...
its very strange my car did it once this morning in 2nd gear after driving for 15 mins, it then stopped doing it. I took it to the mechanic and we could get the car to do shudder again. Its very strange because when i heater hose blew, there was coolant as well as some oil everywhere. its not engine oil or brake oil because they are both full. Power steering fluid is also full. i reckon its just the hot coolant washing the engine and mixing with grease that was cooked on the engine. uhm...
He told me he was happy to have to clutch replaced but he has to show the supplier of the clutch that it`s shudering before he can claim warranty on the clutch kit, and we both cant get the clutch to shudder again, hopefully it has stopped doing it.
if it shudders again, thats it, im claiming warranty no matter what!
my engine is also making some weird metal noise in the timing belt area, i m thinking the tensioner....man i think my whole engine is screwed :?

yeah, the flywheel was machined. ..i saw it being done. all these clutch problems started after the heater hose that goes from the firewall to the engine blew. The clutch was very very bad and it s now better..how strange!? i duuno whats wrong eally..as i told u guys before, my mechanic cant get the clutch to shudder again! and the oil on the gearbox, i cant explain that, the gearbox is not leaking at all, i checked it, theres just some oil from when the hose blew on the bolts on the gearbox.

Could have been water which has now evaporated from heat. Never look a gift
horse if it is running fine. Try going turbo the gremlins come out in so many ways
will be running great then 5 mins later bogging down and then another 5 mins OK
again.
