BP precat engine oil
Hi! I have been test oil with my BP precat engine. I usually run with the car, but always hope 15 or 20 minutes to be able to give strong the accelerator. The engine has new valve seals, the compression test is perfect, never smokes (only in cold), all correct. Here they are my conclusions:
BP Visco 5000 5w40 = 2962km (3.8 + 0.9 = 4.7L oil) BP Visco 3000 10w40 = 3076km (3.8 + 0.8 = 4.6L oil) Mobil 1 5w50 = 4027km (3.8 + 0.9 = 4.7L oil) Castrol GTX 15w50 = 3000 (3.8 + 0.7 = 4.5L oil) Mobil Super M 20w50 = 3000 (3.8 + 0.2 = 4L oil) My father has an Astina 1.8 GT precat with the newly repaired engine, and happens to him like to my. Where I live, the temperature usually is between 10 and 45 degrees. Are the BP precat engine like that Thanks Dailos |

the oil could just be from the crank vents going back into the inlet , tiny amounts of blowby and engine vacume will suck it in and burn it
im going to run full Syn oil in my GT engine, can give extra 4hp in the revs

Too thin / low weight oil for your engine - 5W, 10W and 15W all had 0.7-0.9L lost... 20W oil only had 0.2L lost.
Tried a 25W oil to see if amount lost is less? Ryan |

You are right, but I believe that 25w isn't good for hydraulic lifters (when engine is cold), true?. Of all ways, there isn't 25w50 oil for here. I'm going to make the last oil test with Pennzoil 25w50 (ebay), If it loses oil I will be definitively with 20w50 (BP or Castrol) Last edited by DaiLoS323F; 27-12-2007 at 08:43 AM. |

Use HPR15... Its a 15w-60.
If you look a little closer to what he has done, on all of the xxw-50 oils he used less, its just that with the 5w-50 he did an extra 1000km's, thus the higher result (since the engine is more likely to lose oil when the oil is older, as its lubricating properties start to deteriorate the oil will find it way past seals easier also. Anyways, my point is that from your results, a 15w-60 oil is probably going to be ideal. Try running the nulon performance engine treatment with your next oil change as well, and see how your results are then. It might just be what your motor needs. I know mine uses less oil with the HPR15 and nulon, it also feels countless times smoother and is more eager to rev also. See how you go. |

Nulon is a brand! they make great oils and lubricants, they also make products that help prevent wear etc...well worth the extra bit of pennies on your new ride...Im not sure whether you can get it in your country though?

Nulon additives are sold at EVERY major car parts/accessories store. If you can't find either then you didn't look at all. |

a huge ass infact, seeing as nulon are an australian company and don't export as far as i've been able to find out. their products only seem to be easily availible in aust and nz. maybe you can find a specialist importer in spain but it would cost $$$. there are lots of alternatives to nulon, ask around to fine the best one availible to you

I found a antifriction product, Metal Lube (say it is the best), I guess it is similar to Nulon, and it's possible that the oil loss decrease. On Friday, I change the oil, BP 20w50 + Metal Lube, when making miles with Metal Lube I tell my experience

Indeed.
The problem here is, I thought this was an Australian forum. And looking at everything, with all things considered, I'd say I'm not the first... or the 50th, or the last, to have assumed that... My appologies. |

Yup it is an OZ forum, but the are lots of international members and there is even an International Section within this forum. Takes 2 secs to look at their location under there user names... Look, you are from Sydney! I looked. We have a few members from England, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Austria, Poland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Hawaii (US), USA, Canada, South Africia, Israel and New Zealand from memory. There could be more???
On topic:- DaiLoS323F - I do not think a antifriction product will stop your oil usage. There is overiously a seal, or rings that isn't working properly. I'd be investigating those options. And I'm leaning towards piston rings or valve stem seals due to the fact that thinnner oils are lost more quickly than thicker oils. Ryan Last edited by project.r.racing; 05-01-2008 at 07:56 AM. |

My engine is perfect, it was compression test recent mileage and is perfect, and new valve seals. The 1.8 BG my father was repaired recently and acts like mine, his BP precat engine oil loss from new. Or it could be the climate for here.
Another thing... There is a problem because I'm not Australian? If I have to go the forum will do it, no problem... |
