Make your own kit

[color=#000000ost_uid9]just wondering if any one has tried making there own body kit? What is envolved? It's just I have some ideas but a custom one would cost in the range of about $2500. I know how to do fibreglassing so thats no a problem. Any Ideas??[/colorost_uid9]

market rate for a full custom kit is about double of $2500.
its a different story if you are talking about sponsorship![/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]EZZY's right, it shouldnt be tooo difficult as long as u do it slowly & carefully. Something like side skirts would be an easy thing to start off with. Depending on what else you want to make, it can be a great help to take your existing panel and use it to create a mould or base to work from. Or you could buy a second hand or unpainted panel from somewhere.
( new unpainted front bar approx $200 ??? )

Then do to it whatever you want. add bits, cut bits, bog is good for adding to the shape. Sand it down until it's smooth and use that as a mould for the new panel.

Make sure you have a well ventilated and warm area. An attempt to make a spoiler earlier this year died due to the cold weather drastically slowing down the fibreglass curing. So it warped.

[color=#000000ost_uid0]The other thing you can do is get some foam from fibreglass stores that doesn't get eaten by the resin. You can shape that and then glass over the top of it. Have done some glassing for my boat with it.
Its a bit exxy from memory but would help with things like spoilers not warping because you can glue a few sheets together and then shape away. Glass over the top and its light and super strong because its solid all the way through. A bit like making a surfboard I suppose.

Not actually my boat (mine's just a touch smaller) but looks pretty much the same. Don't have any good photos of my boat on the web so that's why I used that one.

for me to get an idea. I am still kicking that idea around
as got heaps of time at work to think of this **** but
no free time outside to go doing anything. I like the SSX ducts in the front but the mouth on a standard bar is too
big to have them.
