Rear sway bar

Big thanks to kthl (kenny) for the whiteline rear swaybar, that used to reside under his SP20, which now resides under my Astina!
Picked it up tonight, installed it, tested it, and stuff me side ways, what a difference! Combined with the rear strut brace, my car feels 100% better, better turn in, less body roll, and nearly no inside wheel pickup on hard cornering. All I need now are a decent set of shocks, and my handling is complete.

Comparison between the old and new.

The new one is a fair bit thicker!

My solution to stop it sliding from side to side.

Installed on the car

someone will correct me here... but to stop it sliding side to side?
thats what its meant to do, which is why you put moly grease on the inside of the bushes

No, it shouldn't slide from side to side, it should just rotate in the bushes. The bits of stopping rubber are in exactly the same spot as on the factory one, except I couldn't use the factory clamp things to hold the rubber in place, as the new swaybar is too thick.

Edit: have a look in the picture that shows the ends of the 2 swaybars together, the second picture. The piece of rubber is still clamped on the factory bar.

You're welcome Alan. Glad that you're enjoying the "flat out"-ness of the Whiteline bar. Hehe.

A swaybar that slides side to side is not swaybaring much at all, as it's probably only 75% efficient without jambstops if you want me to pluck numbers out of the air. The other negative here is that a swaybar when allowed to slide around, will bias itself to one side of the car almost always, and you will get uneven compression on each side of the bar, affecting the eveness of your turn-in/out.

I'm afraid those stops Alan made, might not be up to scratch. I think he should get some proper hose clamps on them ASAP, then that should be enough to do the trick.

Corrected,
Gav.

Yeah I know they need proper hose clamps, but the ones I had were just a smidge to small, so i used some stainless lock wire in the interim. It holds it pretty tight, but your right Gav, it does need some hose clamps asap.

Rear swaybar was the first mod I made to my Astina.
For such little outlay, the result is spectacular.
I highly recommend it to anyone on a budget that is at the early stages of modifying their car.

Great pics ripper!

Generally how much would a decent one cost?
Is it an easy 'do-at-home' jobby?

I paid $110 for mine second hand, hardly used, but I think you pay around $180-$200 new for them. It is a very easy at home job. You need a 14mm ring spanner, and a 6mm? i think allen key for undoing the swaybar links from the swaybar. That's about it, oh and some rubber grease.

Installation is complete, slide stops aren't going anywhere now!
