removing front door speakers in 95 BA hardtop

Hey guys

I'm looking at getting new speakers for my BA hardtop, I want to get either 5 x 7 or 6-6.5, i'm new to this so i'm not too sure how to get the door panels off, any help would be appriciated, i.e. taking clips/ screws off.

Thanks!!!

well ok heres the know how to do it...

remove the 2 screws in the cool storage area in the doors.
remove the screw that has the lil cover on it .. topleft cornerish when lookin at driversdoor
remove the screw holding the panel behind the doorhandle used to open door (next to lil close open tab) and pull out the panel by sliding it out towards u.. helps if u have the handle in a 90degree angle with door
rest is clips so around the sides unclip everything.. just pull it towards u.. then slide door panel up and presto...

then just undo all the wires and ur sweet.. done it soo many times its a 1 min job 4 me now

Tis an easy job

• Pop the cap off the screw thats about 15cm below the back of the mirror.
• Undo the two screws in the door pocket near the hidge of the lid (might be under little covers) - this applies to 94-97 ones
• Undo the screw holding the doorhandle in place and pull the handle backing forward and out.
• pull the bottom of the door panel towards you, and slide it up
• before you remove it completely, undo the plugs that go to the window/mirror controls

i think that's all

edit: Doh! Beat me to it

Is it a similar thing for the rear doors?
Does anyone know what size speakers are in the rear doors?

but since the thread was about a hardtop, i answered to that question...

if the asked, "i have a hatch instead, what is in the rear?" then i would have answered correctly, we are all not mind readers on AGT.

HARDTOP -
front - 5x7" - front doors
rear - 6x9" - rear shelf

HATCH -
front - 5x7" - front doors
rear - 5" - rear doors

should be enough info for the un-learned. cheers.

that's why they are such a bugger to put rear speakers in the hatches, cos no one i know makes 5" round speakers anymore. it's always a custom chop-up-ob to fit anything in the rear doors nowadays.

I have a series 3 BA hatch and the rears i pulled out were 6". Its 6.5" that have trouble fitting as they dont line up to the holes at all and the door trims wont fit properly with an mdf spacer (unless you hack the crap out of the trims).

I just made the appropriate adjustment with 4 self tappers

If you make a mdf spacer of about 12-16 mm thickness to cover the 5x7 hole it will push a 6/6.5" out far enough to clear the window and the trim will still go on in the front. Much better sound from the 6" than the 5x7" and you have alot more choice in speakers

the front doors are 5x7s not 6x9s... similar shape... just smaller...

the one in the dash is a 2" and is as useless as tits on a bull... unless you want to run a 5.1 surround setup... but it's still facing the wrong direction... all you're gonna hear is what reflects of the glass... and that won't be of any quality whatsoever... that's why im not a fan of 6x9s in the parcel shelf... use your doors... they're much better

however the hole is the dash makes for a great dash mount for guages or a disco ball or a dashboard jesus or something of that nature

some one might hoave gone to the treouble of installing speakers in your rear doors but stock = fillers. There are no rear door speakers, just grates over where they would be, but it's empty.
