[color=#000000ost_uid0]I was going to ask that question about subs too, a 10" or 12"?? And what about Component speakers,
I was going to go the whole hog with Alpine. In particular... 1. CDM-7874EB CD Headunit 2. MRV-F450 5 Channel V12 Power Amp 3. SPR-176A Type-R 6½" Component speakers OR SPR-174A Type-R 6½" Coaxials [depends on the above question] 4. SWR-1221D Type-R 12" Sub OR SWR-1021D Type-R 10" Sub [once again, depending on the question above] Mr_Bob: I sent an e-mail to Alpine [part of it below], you reckon this will meet my requirements?? [quoteost_uid0]I'm the type of person you likes rich, clear sound with deep rich bass that's not overpowering. I'm not a person who will be blasting my ear-drums away with "doof doof" music at a super high volume all the time.... My tastes for music range from Pop, Dance, Classical, Vocal Jazz, Blues.... so crystal clear sound is essential.[/quoteost_uid0] Your input will be appreciated Cheers Adam[/colorost_uid0]

Personally I would suggest you run a 4 channel amp, 2 going to fronts, 2 to rear (bridged0 and give the rears just HU power. 5 channel amps are rarely successful, most people sell them and go as I described. Reason? Coz rear speakers will be faded off from the fronts for an SQ soundstage and 5 chan amps have too much power-supply sharing to do. Apart from, looks a nice system.[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]Adam, take a leaf from your lil brothers book. Sturdy head unit, Components in the front, coaxials in the back, all this run off V12 Amp. Seriously, wait until you hear my setup before you put any money down, my system matches closely to what you are after [/colorost_uid0]

[color=#FF0000ost_uid0]Critter - just a question, coz u are obviously in the know. I saw a "Waconic" amp for sale in Hornsby/ Sydney once. Didnt pay too much attention, but it was 4*80w RMS for $349 (stop laffing.... ). Its German made I think, and ive seen a few over here in England. Having a look at it, its got a pretty damn big heatsink, feels pretty solid, decent venting, power supply is a reasonable size. Seems better than any of the other dodgy amps. U heard of them/ heard them/ know anything about them? It looks pretty shmick too. Chrome.... Just wondering, coz this could be decent for a budget setup. Let me know.
Cheers Brad[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]That would be a "Weconic" amp
They are not so bad things but the power rating is VERY optimistic and 4 channel amps bridged for sub use get very hot and don't drive well and lose control fairly easy. OK for small speaker use IMO, but in the end, you get what you pay for. Personally I prefer the idea of finding something better quality second hand when the budget is a bit tight. eg good used V12 Alpine (plenty about) any of the American brands etc......will serve you well and deliver what they promise.[/colorost_uid0]
