Get a leak-down test done as it gives a more accurate assessment of engine condition.

190psi (??) actually seems a little high to me, but I'm not that familiar with these engines

My car is definitely smoking blue smoke in the morning and seems like the same colour at 5000+ rpm. Is it then possible that it is the stem seals that make the car smoke at high revs.

When I used magnatex it definitely smoked less in the morning. I am currently using 30-70 and it smokes more than magnatex in the morning. If my memory is correct it smokes the same at high revs. The only reason I stopped using magnatex is because I lost too much oil. I would have to refill 2 times per week. Now I refill every 6 weeks or so.
Honestly there is alot going wrong if you are losing that much oil and its just smoking on startup. Even with my B6 laser with REALLY bad valve stem seals, i only had to top up maybe 200ml in 3000km.

clean up your engine, run it for a while, and look for any major oil leaks. even if you fixxed the valve seals, if you are losing that much oil it has to be going somewhere else as well.

I love magnetec, my car runs great on it, and it comes out clean! so suprising to be honest for mineral oil. I also run 10w30 on my BP with 160 000km (92 mod) because the 20w50 makes it run rough and bog down though i did run truck oil in my old 21R-C toyota motor to stop it chewin XD

Actually I think I said something wrong. The car is loosing around a liter of Magnatex 10-40 for every 1000 km not worse. I do not think the engine is loosing anymore oil anywhere else.

used engines are pot luck... GOOD wreckers / importers will strip and clean the engine and make sure its ok, and provide a warranty (usually only like 3000km or 6 months or so...)

or save up and get a reconny

Whats the availability on exhange motors in the BP range? anyone know?

low km bp engines are hard to find. since the youngest from a oz delivered car would be 11 years old now. and the eldest begin 19 years old.

but most BP engines with 120,XXXkm to 150,XXXkm cost between $750-$950. and then it'll be $150-$250 to transport to your location, depending on where the wrecker/seller is located.

i recently purchased a BP with 12X,XXXkm on it for $150. and it cost me $50 for transport in the back of a mechanics ute as it was located 45mins drive away. I was very lucky, but I did wait 3 years to actually find it. and it really needed to be replace 18 months ago.

thats $1200 if you bring the head to them too... $1500 is pretty cheap if they have to rip the head off the car and put it back on too.

I think you can replace seals without removing the head!

but that price range was for a head rebuild, which should include valve stem seals.

try to find a mechanic that will do it without removing the head. you'll probably find a unicorn first.
