KYB New SR squeak!

Hi guys,

I bought and had installed a second hand set of KYB new srs from Japan and am having an issue with the front driver side one squeaking. Have been back to the installer twice.

First time they couldnt find anything and ended up just squirting crc in the top seal of the strut. Squeak returned 2 days later.

Took it back second time, theyve had a look at the bushes etc and everything is fine and have told me the strut is stuffed. There is no leaking and nothing seems wrong with the strut when driving.

Thoughts/ Ideas?

Struts need to be stored compressed and preferably upright. I'm guessing these were uncompressed and laying on their sides for years. So yeah, they're prolly stuffed given that they were used as well.

are you sure it's not the top mount bearings that's making noise? they commonly go bad after many miles because they're plastic rubbish

you haven't actually said what the suspension is doing when it is squeeking.

It's when I'm driving. More constant at slow speeds. High pitched squeak.

if you want this over with quickly, my suggestion is to go find a mechanic that has a tool called "chassis ears"
it's basically a bunch of wireless microphones that can be attached to various suspension pieces and then you can listen in to each one while driving

My 2c says you've pushed the brake dust shield into the rotor when installing the suspension.

Facts not in evidence. You said a high pitched noise when driving. No mention of suspension travel.

Suspension travel, you only mentioned while driving, didn't give details of whether the noise was happening while any suspension travel occured. This is what Cosmo is getting at, can only make a judgement on the facts in front of you, etc, etc.

Perhaps your strut top bush is old/farked
Had this on the astina, so I soaked the strut top with spray grease. Never occurred again. But without actually hearing the sound we are just guessing. If its a high pitch, high frequency squaling it is more than likely the brake dust shield. Had this happen as well and it's not allways noticeable
My strut tops were making a slipping/squealing sound. I have coilovers with a plate top and a steel bush, do I dunno what yours would mske

So through process of elimination the squeak is not the brake dust shield. I bought some crc and sprayed in through the four holes in the top of the top strut mount and the noise has stopped once again.. For now.
