WARNING: "little trees" scented air fresheners
So after an incident tonight I thought I might warn /bitch about the dangers of those stupid little smelly trees!
Last week i found a great little cardboard car air freshener, made my car smell like i was harbouring the willy wonka factory in my boot and it just exploded but thats another story. I hung it off my gear shifter, today when i got in the car i went to get something off the floor and my hairband on my wrist got caught on the air freshener but the air freshener did not move! In pure shock i pulled at it till it came off, to find that it had melted the plastics on my centre console/gear shifter surround. So i just thought id share my experience to hopefully save someone else's interior. Ps. Anyone have a spare sp20 auto gear shifter surround and the bit below that please let me know.

Sorry to hear that, but this has happened to my friends car as well a few years back, also hung on his gear shifter and found when he touch it by accident that it melted on his console and had to replace it cause it wasnt easy to take it off.
Ive always brought the ones that are actually made out of wood, never had a problem with them but saying that it always hung on my mirror. |

yes, all air fresheners do this... I had to replace the ash tray lid on the SP23 because of this.... wasn't fun to do!
perhaps it's an excuse to sticker bomb the console top?

I guess as long its not touching the plastics its okay... but just scares me at the fact that if the chemicals in these things can do that what are they doing to our bodies

no worries, the manual and auto ones are exactly the same... you just have to take off the trim ring around the shifter opening and transfer it over

just so there is no misunderstanding, the trim ring is the little black plastic piece that surrounds the shifter... the console trim/cup holder is the silver piece
the trim ring is universal on all BJ2, doesn't matter which engine or interior colour... they're all black the console trim are the same on all BJ2s (not counting the J48 version only available in Japan or North America), only difference is colour.... transmission type doesn't matter, you can simply remove or install the trim ring in otherwords, you don't have to restrict yourself so much in your search for replacement that you either never find one or never find one cheap
