SP20 Splutter on take off

I have a Mazda 2000 SP20, this week its started missing when you take off, seems to do it most times when taking off at lights, or any time when you come to a complete stop.

Doesnt do it in Neutral when you jump on the throttle, its hard to sell whether its the Auto trying to jump into a higher gear, a slip in the diff or the engine.

As soon as you accelerate it initially jumps off the mark followed by a lack of power them comes right again. Ive suspected for a while it may have the leaky inlet manifold as the idle is not overly smooth, but would it cause the above symptoms?

Checked all the pipes and appeared to be OK, however on checking the plugs it appears they have never been changed, (120,000km on the clock with Denso plugs) the electrodes were rounded and he gap was about 3mm. Replaced with some new platinum plugs and the problem has disappeared. It appears the smallest gap for the spark to jump was between the electrode and side of the plug rather than across the gap. All going good now anyway
