Replacing Rack Ends
Got new tyres the other day for my BA and old mate told me that my RH rack end was "unserviceable". I have ordered the appropriate rack end but am unsure as to how to replace it. I have a Haynes manual but it's proved to be about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. I have a general idea that they require some sort of preload measured by a gauge from where the tie rod end screws on. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe it's easy ...
Just found this on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MJOtr-vj6M
I'm hoping it's the same type of end. Wouldn't mind getting hold of that removal tool! Murphy's law seems to rule my beast. |

Yep same type of tie rod. The captive washers are a slightly different design, looking like a kinked up washer, you need to destroy them to get a spanner onto the hex section to undo the inner rod. They can be buggers to acquire too but are available from overseas suppliers...www.fordprobestore.co.uk last time I bought some.

Straighten the lock tabs and they will unscrew quite easily, I would suggest an alignment afterwards.
