Got a 2003 SP20 Hatch, my rear door lock is grinding when i open and close the door via remote. It does not unlock the door. Any ideas? is it possible to fix yourself?

pull the inside trim off and have a look and see where the noise is coming from.... thats all u can do.. might be just the actuator but pull the trim off and see first

I have this same problem, and it has been driving me mad for months. The Rear-Right door will not lock or unlock with the central locking, but a grinding noise can be heard, as if the motor is trying to work, but can't.
I have taken the trim off, and can tell that the noise is coming from the top right of the door, as pictured. If you rest a hand on the wire that travels between the locking motor and either the door handle or the locking knob, you can feel the motor moving. Has anyone had this before? How do you go about removing the black plastic guard in the picture? It is impossible to even get a hand in there as it is! Any help appreciated, as this has been doing my head in! |

Until you get a replacement unit, just disconnect the wiring so it doesn't struggle and drive you nuts. On the odd occasion you use the door you will need to open it manually, not a big deal.

I have had the same issue, I swapped the whole lock mechanism out of another door.

can't remember if the thing comes all the way off or just swings aside then you remove the main latch from the door the actuator is attached to it will have stripped the gears inside |

I had this problem too. It's the actuator cog. You can buy another actuator from the wreckers or try and find another cog on ebay or the likes. I bought a cog off ebay but sadly it doesn't look like the guys I bought mine off sell them at the moment..

I have the exact same problem, passenger door on the drivers side. Looks like a trip to the wreckers for me. Maybe we should get a poll going, see which door lock fails most!

Simple change of the actuator isn't it? Everywhere sells them...

They want to charge me $785
Hi,
I am experiencing the same problem as all of you below. It has occurred in 3 out of the 4 doors. A Mazda dealer has quoted me $785 to fix. Can i buy these off ebay or through anywhere else and if so where? Regards, John |
