The waterpump is a couple of hundred dollars I had to buy one about a year ago.
The belt and gaskets are about another $200. Full set of bearings about $250 Remove and replace the motor costs me about $550 which already puts you over your $1000 budget and you really haven't started yet. When you are reaplacing all the gaskets do replace the thermostat.

the items that i have listed are what im planning to change myself, im doing a conversion so the motor isn't even in my car yet so i can subtract removal and install costs.
I was thinking more along the lines of Internal work which i couldn't do myself |

Unless you know exactly how to line up the cams etc at TDC I would leave the water pump and timing belt to the mechanic. Personally apart from dropping the sump and looking for metal shavings in the oil, checking for bearing wear etc I wouldn't touch
the top half of the engine cause you may as well buy a low K import engine than bother replacing pistons and reco'ing the head.

oh really, on all the importers websites i've looked on, i havn't seen any with BP N/A engine packages for sale.
I'm not in the city, but i will be in Syndey over christmas. I you could help me find some importers in sydney that would sell a BP N/A, it would be much appreciated. i'd prefer to spend the money towards a motor that doesn't need much fixing |
