Yep. It probably would have been wiser to weld female bungs on the cam cover though. With the male bungs the threads are exposed to damage when you're taking it on and off all the time.

That said...I have a spare few laying around if they'd suit your build. A scratch here or there, yours if you want 'em.

Just for you Needs a Mazdaspeed lip to go with the sideskirts eh? Needs a decent alignment, matching tyres and rims (16/8 on one side 17/8on other!) and the camber and height set up. Getting there. Spot the palace pet pony resting on the top of bumper? I ordered an odyssey battery today #ODPC680 and an Aeroflow billet battery tray to mount it. Last edited by ghetto3; 12-12-2014 at 03:23 PM. |

Got it running today. Apart from a smallish leak from the lower coolant hose everything was sweet. Idles around 1100rpm but need to work on VE map and AFRs. I hooked the MAP sensor up to a spare port on the vacuum manifold and will need to monitor whether or not it will need its own vacuum circuit as currently it shares with fuel pressure reg. and booster.
Running by christmas was the goal! |

The sausage filter is squeezed in there but has at least 20mm clearance about it. Been having glorious fun tuning and madly saving for a trip north and dyno time. A new standard radiator is coming and I have tapped the third runner for a brake booster vac source (not shown in pics). Currently the original one way valve was cut out of the orig. hose and squeezed up the new line and apart from the most minute pulsing on the brake pedal it works well under all braking...multiple pedal pushes off hard accel', off throttle cruise etc. Need to find a tuner still. It will cruise about on my hack map but it is running fairly rich at present. Loving it. |

Thanks mate. It was great to finally stretch its legs though with my little companion on board I couldn't get too excited. Im keen to head up to that fella you guys have recommended and get it properly tuned. I started with an 80% VE map and let adaptive tuner show me what it wanted. I then found an old article in a fast fours mag with a willall tuned mx5 on jenveys that showed a ve map. I punched it in and let adaptive tuner work on that and its been running sweet. I need to try and get rid of the pops and spits here and there as it is running 'safe' rich until dyno time.
The electric water pump has worked faultlessly and keeps the temp within a few degrees of 80*c under all conditions and the cool down feature really helps with dissapating heat. I'd reason there's an extra 30 ponies gained from jenveys and cams etc, you have to keep it on the boil though from about four grand it climbs up on cam and chugs along with a noticeable increase in torque. The power is countered by the obnoxious noise, there is no way of driving it quietly. It sometimes reminds me of that top gear episode where Clarkson blows the plug out of the mx5 and has to drive on with it chugging away. It soundslike an angry mechanical wood pecker trying to get out of your hood. North soon, maybe catch up with some of you guys up there. |

You'll be able to cure (well almost) the downlow lack of response with oodles of timing. Something best done on the dyno though, unless you have a friend with a good ear and a knock sensor Just let us know when your up and we'll arrange a meet

2500km on the new setup and no oil used, no leaks, no probs.
Thanks to clean cookie for providing a stout bottom end, project.r for the cams and lifters, brown dog for the valve locks, rupewrecht for heaps and all you other guys for info here and there. I rolled the rear guards a bit more to clear the 17/8s' and am accumulating parts for the next round of mods. After pulling up at maccas grafton a couple of nights ago I noticed the engine bay had been painted with coolant. While the bonnet was up a couple of policemen helping push a broken down car through drive through thought I might need help too. They had a Thorough look, told me to cover the "pod filter" up and then got some gaffa tape to help secure my leaking rad cap! |
