As far as i know, Subaru have stopped selling it due to it being harmful to the atmosphere (apparently).

Not much more than a stock one of similar age and condition. Mods are worth very little.

Hey guys,
Im installing a catch can and found this on mazdas247. If i connect my catch can to the same nozzels as this guy will be right? Obviously his has got a pod letting preassure go, where as mine is air tight.?

Usually modifications make a car more desirable to a much smaller market than stock making them harder to sell and worth the same or a little more than a standard model.
Also a modified car is also a good sign that the car has been driven harder than normal which also lessens its value. When my car was a few years old I took it back to Mazda and enquired about trading it on a new 3 and was told that the would give me a better trade in if I put the stock rims and exhaust back on as it made the car a lot easier to sell. |

I'm intending to place mine between the valve cover and the pipe leading from the air cleaner to the throttle body. If I had a turbo it'd be between the valve cover and the pipe leading from the air cleaner to the turbo.

You will need to some form of vacuum to help pull the gases and oil from the valve cover. This is normally done with the pipe coming off the air intake pipe. The photo of your setup is not clear as to how yours is set up.

catches excessive "blow by" (sump oil) that would otherwise end up in IC piping; turbo inlet pipe or, in an N/A application, simply catches spent sump oil that is diverted into engine via pcv line & returns to inlet manifold through to throttle body & be burnt along with fuel/air into combustion cylinders

In a nut shell engines create posative preasure inside them and this pressure needs to get out. This pressure also contains small amounts of oil which is considered polution so it can't just be vented to the atmosphere. Instead it exits through the PCV valve and the breather tube into the intake system where it's burnt in the combustion process.
The PCV valve vents into the inlet manifold, and as far as I'm concerned causes no harm, while the breather tube vents into the pipe leading to the throttle body, VICS butterflies or turbo and they really don't need to be caked in oil. The catch can basicly uses gravity to remove oil from the air moving through it so the intake bits doesn't get caked in oil.

to me that set up does not look right.
there is no need for it to be attached to the pcv valve. it should be between the head breather and intake piping. |
