Indeed

Oh and in regards to your question Rix, yes it can be installed on a AMD machine. or leoard can, i havnt seen any patched kernels around for snow leopard for AMD yet.

Just google leopard + AMD, should return some results/guides

People release entire DVDs that dont need any modifying that are as easy as installing windows now a days

My work Lappie is a 3+ year old 'LG-E' S1 Express dual and the only problem I've had is with the connection to the screen which began failing about a month ago Oh and it doesn't have a serial port.
Finding a replacement is gonna be a bitch, most of the HPs that have been tried have gone FUBAR after 18 months and cheap ASUS etc... don't have the body streangth. Oh and LG-E don't do lappies any more and LG-N (who would have spares) are a long way away.

If you want to run DDR3, compare the price of an AMD Phenom II quad & AM3 board for the cost of the E8500 and the P5Q3. Otherwise DDR2 is fine for the E8500, unless you want to run a rediculously wide FSB speed overclocked.

Depends what you want to do with the computer. Bang for buck, the E8400-8600 with DDR2 RAM are very good for most things, including gaming. Also, the Phenom II quads are very well priced, and would cost much the same as a balanced E8600 system. Intel quads are great for CPU intensive software, but tend to be not as good for gaming unless you get something with a higher core speed, like the new i7 core chips. That's why I suggested to look at Phenom II quads as they are roughly the same price range as what you've mentioned (even with the higher bus speed). AM3 boards are really cheap too.

My PC is used maily for games and internet, so, Im going to add some RAM today, stick with my mobo and think some more. If I stick with intel I can get away with just a bios upgrade for the E or Q series cpus.

Added 2 Gb more RAM and found that the RAM clock was set to 667 not 800MHz, seems a bit quicker, but that could be my imagination.

The thing you will notice most with more RAM is the HDD won't thrash as much. You won't see any difference with clock speed on RAM unless you are overclocking, etc...

Picking up an E8500 on the way home, will have to flash my bios though

Ended up with a Q9550 and getting new mobo today, sticking with DDR2 tho' so choice is limited P43 or P45 based card i think should be around $150 mark.

Intel E8400 is nice for gaming and can overclock easy lol 3.6ghz, did not have to touch voltages and ran at 44 max and 39 idle. When not overclocked it rans at 39max and idle 35 lol love it

I might try and overclock it to 4ghz later.

Suppose I better put mine up

Case: Thermaltake Armor Black Aluminium
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 4600 2.4 GHz
Cooling: Lots of green case fans
Mobo: Asus Crosshair
RAM: 2x 1GB 800Mhz
GPU: Leadtek Nvidia 7950GX2 (SLi on the one board)
Audio: Onboard high definition
PSU: OCZ 750W
HDD: 500GB, 400GB, 300GB
ODD: 1x Pioneer Black DVD Burner, 1x Liteon DVD Burner
Monitor: 20" BenQ
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 (6.1) Ultimate Edition (Build 7100)

Just be aware that I have 2 of those graphics running quad normally but have taken one out due to windows 7 not liking it very well (or possibly a faulty card) and that other than the 500GB hard drive this computer is now 3 years old with no major upgrades.
