[color=#000000ost_uid0]plenty of breathing space i rekon. although i have to admit... i spent alot of time pondering whether i should use pvc instead to elimate the flow issues associated with ag line.
Price difference is considerable... Ag line is about $30/10m... PVC and fittings would come to about $50. Best thing about PVC however is that they make a 150mm pipe so thats an extra 2" of breathing space... wonder if it would fit through the chassi hole [/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]I imagine that the flexible air conditioning duct would work but its best if you keep it as straight as you can because the inside diameter of the ducting is a lot smaller when its bent and the flexible bits collapse inward. I guess it would depend a lot on the stuff that you got though.
Saturday is good for me. [/colorost_uid0]

[color=#3A6EA5ost_uid0]I spose you could say that with the flex/corrigated ag line it will be easier to fit, but the flow would all be screwed (trust me I did air flow stuff for uni) and the PVC gives laminar flow, which means pure flow into the engine. If you use Ag pipe, then it will be best off to have a wider pipe to reduce the ediie currents in the pipe that could actually start to reduce flow (comparatively).
Ahhgghhh - I just read that back to myself try again... 1. PVC Better becouse of laminar flow but harder to instal 2. Ag pipe easier to install but due to corrigations bad flow. Soultion - User bigger ag pipe to help with flow or install pvc but will spend ages trying to shape it etc...etc...etc.. If I still don't make sense just tell me... I think we needed a CAI thread rather than the two vic/act/nsw ones. I am starting to loose the plot...[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]And Ag pipe has the bonus of catching any water that is likely to get sucked up, in it's corrugations.[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]The ag pipe is unslotted dan, so there are no slots in the corrogations. Only intake will be at the bar so no different then running pvc except previously mentioned benefits re air flow.
I dont like the idea of a/c piping due to the fact that the material can be easily perforated, AG pipe is much stronger and is as easily shaped as a/c pipe. Granted a/c pipe is a wee bit cheaper.[/colorost_uid0]

[quoteost_uid0="JynX"][color=#000000ost_uid0]To fit this you will need to enlargen the intake hole on the bottom of the factory airbox.[/colorost_uid0][/quoteost_uid0]
[color=#000000ost_uid0]i was looking at the pics of the melb cai day, and i noticed that, well put simply, i dont have an air box like some of u guys have. i have an air flow meter where it looks liek ur airbox is, and once u disconnect this the engine doesnt start. so on the 1st gen astinas, where does the cai attach 2?? does it just connect up to the air flow meter?? anyone know what happens if u connect the cai up to a point after the air flow meter and partially bypass it?? otherwise im not sure what the fuk u do!!!!! thanx manuel[/colorost_uid0]

Olympic,
You more then likely have the same setup as I do, 1st gen 94 model, so you definetly have an airbox. Its big, black and ugly and your AFM will be attached to it. If you have a pod filter then more then likely whoever installed it ditched the airbox. With a pod, you legally should have it enclosed so you should simply run the cai to a point in your pod enclosure so the pod will suck air from the cai. If its not enclosed, you can run the cai to sit somewhere near the pod filter but it will not be very effective as it will be easier for air to be drawn from the engine bay as opposed to the cai pipe. If you want somthing similar to what I did, be prepared to hack your airbox apart as the pipe i used is vry large.

ok,
jynx- ive got a first gen astina, as in a 91 model sp. all i have is the afm, with the outflow the goes back and hits a box. but this box is small, not big and ugly. its about the size of a stack of about 5 cd's. thats the best estimate i can give. i took it out, and theres nothin in there. theres not really much room there to run an AG pipe into. any ideas?? and sk, rupes rite, i was lookin at the old melb cai day.

In regards to fitting the pipe, if theres a will theres a way. Ill make sure i pack a dremmel or somthin in case we need to hack off some metal in your chassis... lol

Would be good if someone had a friend who was a mechanic who could let us use their workshop while they sit back and laughed. Anyone know one???
Unfortunately I live in a unit so not much garage or parking space.

So which actual day is this, 10th or 11th (Sat or Sun)?
If the 10th, then might come down to say hello. I'm working at Eastern Creek for some mates in the Jag Club on the 11th....introducing them to a REAL car

I was of the understanding that it was the 10th. Might be tripping up to Newcastle for that night so might be able to cruise up the highway with you.
