Yes, there is a website called mx5mania that lists so much for the MX5!!
And it doesn't seem expensive by comparison to other models, even the Lancers mods cost more! And I would definately pay for the hardtop, and extra $1500 or so to put on the car for the worst of the Canberra winter  And I would still have my AstinaGT mini sticker somewhere, and I would stay an active member here! This was my first forum and will always be my home!!! ^..^ |

OK, I drove 2 MX5's yesterday
both were 1998 models that were overpriced at dealerships Then I did some spec comparisons between the models of MX5, and it seems that 2000 model is THE one to own with 113kW standard power compared to 106kW on most of the rest (n/a models only). There is no way I can afford an sp or titanium pack, but the 10th Anniversary special in blue is available...... it will however cost me $30K changeover if I trade the 'stina. The dealers are rotten when it comes to trade in and I got offered from as low as $8K for my car, which is B/S on what it is worth.... and because they don't understand that it is the freak! ANYWAY..... If I am looking at a $30K car, then it changes the new car price bracket too... and the SP23 could indeed be included on the list. Notes I found on the MX5: The soft top is easy to drop single person but a bit harder to put up single person (ie/ you need to get out of the car) There is a particularly crap gold one in Woden  There is a particularly great silver one in Belconnen :? They are BLOODY SMALL inside with the roof up, with no rear seat (2 seater car only) and a tiny boot! The standard speakers sound like ****E It is heavier than the Astina It corners like a demon Lacks top end speed as standard and.... yep you guessed it, I still want one.... as a friend has said to me, I am insane!! *goes off to test drive the sp23* btw, did you know that the new lancers are 2.0litre? the coupe's are 1.8Ltre and there is no longer a 1.5/1.6 lancer being produced, that is the Mirage only.... And Australia will be waiting a while longer yet for the new Colt to arrive. |

Oh, there is one other reason to get the 2000 --> model...
Minor service interval (oil change - km) 1998:7,500km 1999:7,500km 2000:10,000 same from 2000 onwards Major service interval (km) 1998:15,000km 1999:15,000km 2000:40,000 same from 2000 onwards So basically pre 2000 has a major service every 2nd service while post 2000 has a major service every 4th service. So if I get the car serviced based on time instead of k's (I doubt I would do that many k's in it... I think) it means a major service every year v's a major service every second year. Bit of a difference in ongoing maintenance and cost factors methinks........... |

I'm still stuggling to work out the equation....
About to finish my job...... therefore time spend a lot of money to get a new car. :? I don't get it. Cool though! I saw a new MX5 turbo on the way to work this morning. an absolute miniature intercooler on the front - could have covered it with a hankerchief! Absolutely dying for modifications/upgrades!

equation goes something like this:
when I finish work, I will have a car debt and repayments on the Astina If a different car is the same repayment rate, but newer/better model, there is no change. Except if I buy brand new, I have new car warranty (I only have until December this year left on the extended warranty on the Astina) The aim for me is to upgrade while I can still fill out paperwork with me working for Gov for last 7.5 years and getting $55K plus per year on paper, rather than wait until I am on disability payments or in a new job Even the MX5 would have a longer warranty than what is left on the Astina. And it's fun! Not that the Astina isn't fun... I hope the Astina doesn't take it personally!! |

I knew someone with 'one of those spastic pieces of poo'. When it was at the panel shop after an accident every time she rang and asked about the progress of her Ford Ka she would get the response 'we got a lot of Fords in here love, what type of Ford car is it?'

Get pre-approval on that loan too kitty, and sell the Astina before you get a new ride, otherwise you could be in a similar situation I have been in.
But, car suggestion wise . . . why not a 200sx S14 pre S15 facelift? (SeriesII S14 I guess). I like those and should be well within your price range now |
