I noticed a little pool of puddle in my spare wheel well last weekend, after washing my car. Anyone had these issues? Leaking through the tail lights?

Don't worry about that puddle, that's "within specification" for most hatchbacks. Hatches have a significant amount of places water can get in, could be the lights though, as the outer part is just plastic on metal with no seal... Just pull the bung out the bottom and for a drive and it will drain.
It's the leak over the clutch pedal that gives ppl the willies!!! Mind you I haven't found any water in the car in the last 2 sessions of rain we've had up here. So it might be that it gets forced in from driving in the rain, and or then parking it after driving in the rain??? Gav. |

Gav,
i have noticed the same thing since my car is now parked in my front yard. During any downpours, the water doesnt get into the car. So i guess it only happens when u depress the clutch. |

Maybe the seal on the clutch moves with the clutch mechanism instead of staying up against whatever it's sealing? This would explain why I never had a leak in the gay auto...

Hey everyone
I too "had" the same problem with my car, I noticed it just before my warranty exired on my car, but i thought it was just because i had driven thru a huge puddle. It happened again so i called my dealer. They said if its a problem to call. Well it happened again 12 months out of warranty so i dropped in to south city mazda.I had also knoticed a strange clunk from the clutch pedal when it was pressed right in. They said it was most likely that clutch seal mentioned by everyone. How ever they called me back and said its not that. They arranged a suitable time for me to get it fixed like 2 weeks later and gave me a loan car (A mazda 2, which was nice) it took them 3 days to fix it. And ever since then no leaks. No one ever fully explained what it was, i kinda over heard them say something about "Its a crack in the firewall around the cluch causing the leak" I know it was sent to a panel beaters beacasue it was returned with a keyring for a panel beaters on it. But what ever it was it was fixed free of charge and the car was a long time out of warranty. Might pay for a call to Mazda for everyone else.. Don't they come with a extended body work warranty??? |

went to mazda just then, said too me that theres a crack in the chassis its a common problem with these model mazda's so ive booked it in for monday morning, they can fix it buy applying some type of bond silicon type thing for around 50bux, and it will stop leakage,
so hopefully it all goes well and it really does stop sick of having wet carpet and it makes car smell funny too |

Frontbums should wear the cost given it's widespread, not exactly a wear and tear issue caused by the owner/driver...

Well, I went to Oldmac Spazda at Cleveland this morning. On mine they just put sillycoon around where the spot welds had let go. So this thing that is spot welded on, musn't bare the load of the clutch pedal I'm guessing (hoping!)? I left the car door open out in the sun for it to dry out, and I will be waiting for more rain to see if they've done a decent job on it or not.

Oh, they didn't fix it under duty of care or extended body/corrosion warranty either, I had to pay $60.50 for it to get done. I wouldn't mind so much, except they went checking the AC system and window for leaks, which was not part of my request, so I had to pay for the lab time on that too...

I paid $60.50 for mine, and I doubt I got a rubber cap too... Also, like I said earlier, they checked a bunch of unessessary things to up the lab time to charge me more... My car was complied in Jan 2003, and sold in Feb 2003, so it's one of the last ones prior to the Shades runout model. It actaully came with the 14" Shades wheels as part of the prepromotion on the real Shades.

So the gist of this is that the spot welds are breaking? in my opinion, that should be free, does anyone want to write a letter to Maz HQ and chuck a few names on it?

My 02 Astina does it too. I'm yet to track it down. It too leaks around the clutch pedal area and drives me nuts.
