Has there been anymore developments on this topic? My car has only just started leakin in this spot. My husband does all my servicing etc. I don't really want to have to take it to mazda and have them charge me for it. What can I tell them to get it under that body warranty, or should I just buy the bung off them and get my Husband to do it?

It stopped leaking. But I think it's a real poor fix, as I doubt they weld the plate back on around the clutch pedal...

Hi,
I am new to this Forum and have Two Astinas, a 97 BA-P3 and a 98 BJ. My BJ Astina has the same old dreaded ' Puddle ' on the Drivers side as well. I found my Leak to be caused by water, that was coming out of a Drain Hole below the Plinth Chamber and then running onto the Steering Knuckle Rubber Cover. This water was then running around this cover and finding it's way through the Inner Sealing Rubber, it was only a small trickle but enough over a period to allow water to settle under the Driver's side carpet. I have captured some photos of this area if you needed by anyone. Cheers |

Just an Update re the Water Leak in my BJ Astina.
I have sealed up the Steering Dust Boot and the Wire Harness plug hole up. No leaks in the car so far but did notice that there was still the water running out in the same spot below the Plug Hole. On further investigation i found that this leak is coming from the Join as i think you guys have been talking about. The Plinth Chamber Front Section is Spot Welded to the actual Chamber Floor, with has separated enough to let the water through. My next step will be to run a bead along both the Inner and Outer edges to stop this happening. So the cause of the water running onto the Dust Cover boot was my problem. I could see where the same water could run over the Clutch Slave Cylinder and then run inside the car, thus running onto the actual Clutch pedal as stated before. Cheers |

People this is clearly an issue, i went into Rosconi Mazda in Bathurst yesterday and asked them if they had heard of the problem before. I explained it as it had been explained in this very forum and the guy laughed in my face, told me he'd been there for 20 years and never heard of it. Aside from the fact i didn't give a **** about his life story i told him that many people had this issue and we all discussed it on the internet. He looked at me puzzled, the internet?
I said Mazda had fixed it elsewhere in NSW on some occasions and he and his mates laughed at me and told me there had been no technical bullentin lodged by Mazda so it wasn't an issue they'd fix. I left feeling embarassed and pissed off. If this is such a big issue and is happening to all our cars we surely must be able to do something about it.... i mean Mazda should do something about it. mazda wont do anything about it... its been too long and my guess is that the factory warranty does not apply any more.. you have to remember that bjs were influenced by found on rubbish dumps in the bj erra, so this little thing might have been a design flaw that was found out way to late in the development and or testing and was kept in the final production to minimise production costs. but the thing is, from what i heard from here, is it possible to put a few pop rivets thru and run some sikaflex or silicone around? or possibly go to current affair in nsw and complain about how some bunch of technologically retarded douchbags have never heard of a problem? again if it was never bought to proper attention of mazda, corporation not dealerships, they probably are not abbliged to fix it. but this really sounds like a pain in the arse.. my old holden camira used to leak through the a-pillar, next to the windscreen joint where the roof garnish was, right in to the cabin down the interior trim and in to the passangers floor. puddled very nicely i could never ever found the exact place where it leaked from, and was way to scared to rip any interior or exterior trim off due to age and condition of the car my hart goes out to you all on this matter

Hi,
Well after all my efforts and help from you guy's here on the Forum, the leak is no more. Quote:- is it possible to put a few pop rivets thru and run some sikaflex or silicone around? I would be against putting in any Pop Rivets, IMO you are only giving the water another entry point, no matter how well you seal it up. Cracked spot welds in the firewall directly above the clutch in my car.
Temporarily fixed with blue tack (just for testing), and the leak has completely stopped even after a bucket of water was tipped into the cavity. Last edited by Simon; 20-11-2012 at 12:18 PM. |

I sanded mine a little, put rust converter on... Then covered with marine grade non acidic sealant
