Apparently, they have different spray patterns.
This is supposed to help with more even combustion, as the first two intake runners will get slightly different airflow than the back two runners. At least thats what I remember reading on the interwebs sometime

From what I have read and heard the FS-ZE has lots of little tricks used to increase the power output.
It will be installed into the car on Monday hopefully. Im planning to take the day off to watch/help install the engine. |

Not sure but will find out on monday, Darryl maybe able to tell us if the wiring harness is the same between my new ECU and his ECU.
I am led to believe that JDM cars were not OBD II as only the US required cars to be OBD-II compliant at the time. I would like it to be OBD II so I can get a scan gauge but if not meh |

Phil, do you have a 2.0L drivers side mount ready to go? Or at least know where you can get one quickly? There is a slight difference between the engine positioning on F- and G-series gearbox engines - about 20mm Not sure if this will apply in your case, but wanted to give you a heads-up

Just my 2c worth, consider opening up the inlet manifold and make sure the VICS butterflies are secure.
Better safe than BOOM

I am going to attempt to reuse the F series gearbox so I should be able to reuse my engine mounts.
If not new ones will be used. Its got a completely different intake system to the FS-DE so it should not be affected by the intake issue. |

While, you have some time on the weekend, it probably would be worth the hour to quickly take apart the IM and Loctite those VICS butterfly valves as some cheap insurance

The 1.8 engine has been removed from my car and we have discovered that the 1.8 and 2.0 clutches are completely different so we are waiting for a custom clutch to arrive.
Everything else looks like it will be a straight swap. The wiring looms seem to be the same. One strange thing we found about the import engine is that its fitted with a genuine Momo corse oil filter. Never seen one and didn't know they even existed. |

Presumably your 1.8 runs an F series gearbox?

Ah yeah, thought it might be that. SP20s have the G, so the splines'll be the difference yeah?
Either way, good luck

Also, while you are waiting, have you plugged in the Mazdaspeed ECU to see if it connects to your dash, starts the fuel pump, runs the HVAC controls etc? Sounds promising so far!

Splines are different and the sp20 clutch is signicantly larger than the 1.8.
So a custom clutch is on the way. Last edited by phildough; 28-03-2011 at 06:42 PM. |
