I didn't fit this today but did it last week with Madmat.
It is a brace bar that goes inside the rear bumper and goes between the rear bumper mounts.
It doesn't look like it will do anything but I have noticed a big change in rear end behaviour now.
I thought I would put up a pic to show others what I have done in case others want to do it.
The rear brace bar is off the JDM Mazda Familia Sport 20

Wiring diagrams and information on getting the FS-ZE to work can probably be obtained from Focus MSP. The guys knowledgeable and has down 2? conversions before

To raise octane of fuel , waiting for you smart reply which craps on for ages about why it doesn't or why it shouldn't be used
it could cause the fuel trim to go excessively negative, turn on a "CEL", and cause the engine to lean out excessively when it shouldn't be... exhaust temperatures could also go up and burn out the cat

but moderate, calculated amounts of octane boost matching the tune of the ECU (or carburettor setting) will not cause a problem.... the cheapest way to do it is to use toluene or xylene, but it adds additional emissions somewhat

Import the israeli spec 1.8l wiring harness and it's almost straight plugin with the FS-ZE ECU
or import a European 1.8l harness and modify it some to make it work

SP20 has this stock... it is not designed for crash safety, but for chassis rigidity improvement, just like how the SP20 came with a front strut bar

the same idea can apply to the front bumper on all the non-US BJs because there is no bar connecting both sides of the frame rails.... I posted a thread a couple of years ago about this showing there was one bloke in Japan that made and sold these, but I got flamed here and on the "other" aussie forum

Just confirm with them the size. SuperPro catalogue has it listed as 20mm, but it is 23/24mm depend on engine.

Weird, I have looked under a SP20 rear bar and it wasn't there, it must have been removed in an accident!
It also wasn't on the bumper we ripped off the the SP20 sedan at the wreckers.
Anyway its a worthwile mod for those who own a 1.6 or 1.8.

SP20 Astina ONLY
SP20 Protege does not have it!

that brace cannot fit into the sedan without modifications.... but better to just custom make one or just get the GT spec trunk brace kit

Currently sitting where the rear passengers would sit with a beer and bag of lollies! Used the toolbox as an esky! Just finished scrubbing wax and grease remover all over the interior! a few spots of blood still remain. Starting the dynamat install on the sides and front.

Just a heads up the JDM Mazdaspeed Familia used a gearbox mounted speed sensor so you will have to rebuild the gearbox to add this sensor.
You will need the JDM wiring diagrams as well as the US model one.
Good luck finding the JDM wiring diagrams BTW.
if i get the swap which is the motor. block/head ecu and harness comes with it. i guess biggest part to worry about is the wiring to go from obd2 to obd1 right?

all sensors should work
the 02.5 ECU is semi-OBD2, earlier ones are not.... no big harness changes

Put a new battery in the BA then decided to go and get lunch. Car started straight up then stalled, re-started and reved engine and then it stalled again.
I remembered that I disconnected the AFM so reconnected it and started, idled and reved normally.
Then I shut it down and went to get my wallet.

On the way back I noticed a speed camera, no safety camera, oops I meant revenue camera in one of the local streets. Lucky I wasn't speeding.
