Well it's not particularly fast as it produces a max of 77kw, whereas the dohc produces 92kw. Additionally the sohc has longer gear ratios (f series gearbox) than the dohc (g series gearbox), meaning that it accelerates slower.
The plus side however is that these are fine, even good, for daily driving. The sohc is more fuel efficient than the dohc- expect maybe 8-8.5L per 100 in the city and roughly 6 on the highway, whereas the dohc will use about 1L more than those. I've driven both a sohc and a dohc, and while I'd take the SP for it's 'fun' and 'sportiness' values (ie. power windows, sunroof, engine, etc) the sohc is still a pretty damn good car, it's cheaper than the SP, and in my opinion better than its rivals of the time- think corolla seca, mitsubishi lancer, n14 pulsar (not SSS), ford laser kh, etc. |

you wont get a turbo on thre without different compression pistons and strengthend rods, all manifolds etc so you might as well get a engine conversion lol thats why its so popular

My 2c: if you want power you'd be better off to sell the astina and buy something that comes with a turbo rather than turboing your sohc. You're looking at 5 grand at the very minimum (and that's a conservative estimate), and then add another grand or so if you want a G-series gearbox + driveshafts etc to handle the power without smashing your box to tiny pieces. For that price you could well just sell the astina for maybe 3 grand depending, then take the 5 you would've spent on turboing and use that 8 to buy something like a 180sx or the like.
Or, you could just keep your astina as a good quality daily. |

I will annoy everyone but ... the 323C / Familia Neo don't appear anywhere ..
In Europe, the 323C is considered as a BA (the code is BA1352). Moreover, I don't see the 1.5L DOHC engine which I have on my car, same thing for the 1.3L SOHC. |
