Well the clutch didn't arrive so at the moment the engine is still waiting to go into the car.
Pretty much every thing is the same wiring wise between the FP-DE and the FS-ZE so it looks like the Familia was OBD-I. I checked that all the plugs on the FP harness fitted the FS and all plugs fitted the ECU so it looks like we wont have to swap the harness even though its not a huge job. Hopefully if all goes well I might be driving it tomorrow. The ECU and Model Number for those Interested: [/IMG] Mazda FS-ZE with Mazdaspeed lightweight flywheel FP-DE with stock flywheel: Notice the major difference between the flywheels FP-DE with gearbox Intake side FS-ZE Intake side Colour of the oil that came out of old engine when drained: FP-DE Exhaust side, notice that the headers are a lot shorter and behind the heat shield are completely different. FS-ZE Momo Corse oil filter!!! I didn't even know they existed!!!! Video of the colour of the oil drained from the car. Last edited by phildough; 28-03-2011 at 07:16 PM. |

Wow, she's well and truely fooked! Just to make sure, you're running stock intake or even a SRI? Sorry but couldnt help myself
had a quick google search, and from what I have come across, are worth a pretty penny! Could be an Un-Zed thing?

I am looking at rebuilding my air intake but ATM its going to have to stay the same for a while. The filter is not an Un-Zed thing as the donor car was accidentally cut in half in Japan as the Mazdaspeed Familias have a chassis code that matches the 1.5L(BJ5P). That filter + its got expensive plugs in it means the previous owner must have liked their car. Also it looks like its had really good oil used in it. |

With the custom clutch I will be using the lightened flywheel outputting to my F series gearbox.
I haven't checked the knock sensor but will be checking that tomorrow as I know have the day off to finish it. YAAY |

I still have all the parts to rebuild my stock air intake along with a hardly used K&N panel filter, but I really don't think its going back in the car.
I think I am just going to stay out of water in the future. |

Looking good Phil!
Awesome that you got the day off to see the beast come alive! While I was walking around this evening, I wondered if you were going to have any issues with the alternator. The FS-DE alternator is regulated by the ECU - and I guess that the FP-DE would be the same. I was worried that if the output of the FP-DE was lower than the 80 Amps of the FS-DE then you might have an issue. Thankfully they are 80 Amps so I reckon that it will all work fine Oh, and you were wondering where the extra 4kW of power between the FS-ZE and the Mazdaspeed engines comes from, check out the cam specs between the two in the following link : http://www.mazda626.net/topic/14174-f-series-specs/

Just on the knock sensor. It actually carrys a FP part number. Not a ds and i think it would depend on where it was sold to determine if its fitted

I did a quick search on 'Momo Corse oil filter' and the first thing that came up was this thread.

It's only a branded oil -filter. You will proberly find it's made in the same factory or by supplier who makes them for say in Italy - FIAT. but then again being the modern world it's proberly made by an intalian company - made in some former Eastern block. The only difference being - they use a different mould or desgin but materials are the same. Or like in most cases you change one item and it's worth 20 Times more to the end consumer but not the maker or provider.

Both the FP-DE and FS-ZE run a knock sensor.
They both look the same and have the same coloured wires and plugs. The Momo Filter is made by Denso of Japan. Update on the car. The clutch arrived this morning but when fitted wouldnt fit inside the bell housing so at the moment im going to have to use my old clutch which will save the gearbox from certain destruction till I get enought money for a G series. So we put the engine in the car and it all fitted perfectly, using the mounts and loom off the 1.8. I then fitted the FS-ZE ECU and we tried the car, it turned over, but no ignition. , I then tried the FP-DE ECU and the car started and ran. We then tried fitting the FS-ZE loom and when we tried to start the car nothing happened. I think it may be the factory immobiliser system kicking in but I really dont know. |

Today they put the 1.8 loom and ecu back in the car and tested it, everything runs ok, They couldn't get the VICS to work properly but im kind of not surprised.
They tested the car on the dyno to make sure the AF ratios were ok and its running ok so for the moment I think I will be driving the car without VICS and on my 1.8 ecu until I can figure things out. The car at the moment puts out more power than a SP20 does and will get better when I get the new ecu working. |

So the Japs put on some fancy crap on decent factory Toyota filter. No surprise. Good work on the conversion. If you haven't already I know you might not be able to afford it but, if you want it to run full factory styles. I suggest you get hold of an original BJ workshop manual you proberly don't need the electrical diagram book as it will only tell you or show where the wires run. the standard book has basic Schematics. but it should have the pin outs and pin inputs to the ECU. you can then proberly work out A imobilizer by pass or even if you need to override something etc. Or if as bonus it might have in the book itself both FS and FP. you can cross referance it. hard to find but I've found always worth the investment. Not sure how devided up the BJ one is but might only need Volume 1 or 2 or what ever. Unless there is a full online one. but never found a online one as good as any of my original mazda ones. Of course aftermarket ECU is always an option -then Boost LOL |

Darryl mentioned Rick playing around with the fuel map on the FP ECU, any reason why this couldnt have been done on the ZE ECU?
Running VICS aint that bad, I do everyday (but you can notice it..) Power figures to date? Or is that a secret for now?

"Fuel pump wiring", not "fuel map".
