I've been giving a diesal box crap for the last two years. I was thinking more along the turbo 626 box theme as the r/h shaft should bolt up correctly to the FE and mounts similar to the current g-series.

I've taken a quick measure and block height is almost the same and head is about 15mm taller. Only difficulty may be using the factory strut brace, MS and Whiteline are a little taller so hopefully no problems.

Keep in mind the crank centrelines are different, the FE3 crank sits high up in the block and the BP crank sits at the very bottom. So the height difference once its actually installed in the car will be bugger all. There is one on youtube with an FE3 in it. It was in Europe somewhere, looked completely stock. If you need any pointers let me know, judging from the picture you arent using an FE3 loom and computer etc? Going aftermarket? Found it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5z2i251dG0 Last edited by jesiotrot; 30-06-2012 at 08:17 PM. |

Plan ATM is to use the Astina wiring and computer so that I can show it to Vicroads and get the paper work out of the way. First though I need to find someone to put the engine into the Astina.

Is the car currently registered? Because there is a spare space on the block to stamp an engine number. So if its already registered with the BP, just use that engine number and stamp it on the FE3 block. Vicroads doesnt have to know anything. You'll never get caught because nobody cares about cars like this.
The engine is almost a straight bolt in with a g-series gearbox. |

I would really like remote central locking as well, and I've found a factory receiver. But how do you get a remote, and is it just a plug-in affair? And do you need to change the drivers door striker if you've already got electric central? Last edited by himynameisbunny; 24-09-2012 at 03:52 PM. |

remote central locking isn't hard at all on these.
get some kind of kit, whether it be an alarm or just remote kit. wire it or a solonoid in the drivers door. when the drivers door unlock, the oem central locking unlocks the other 3 doors. |

Leather shift boot and guage rings came in the post today. Was thinking about putting the boot on today but I may wait until the weekend and do the short shifter at the same time.

Slowly, it's still at the shop. I should drop in on Monday and visit it.

I'm putting a BPD in the front hole so it's an almost stock G series trans. I'll just have to resist doing burn outs to prevent the box from producing shrapnel.
The GD 3rd is a little lower than the BA ratio so I should get a more even spread between all of the ratios while the 5th, as we know, is higher and nicer at freeway speeds. I still have the FE and I want to put in my ute but considering it has taken three months to swap the carpet and put the bucket seats in (and I haven't finished yet) I don't want to say it will go in.

Time for an update...
No update The Mfactory diff came without bolts (or I lost them) and had to get replacements. They were delivered to the gearbox builder last year and he hasn't rebuilt the box yet. I am going to be a little more persistent as this is dragging on a bit too long ATM. At least it's out of the weather and safely stored.

Wiring hasn't begun and I decided to have it done. It's all under dash work and my back wouldn't be happy if I spent the hours in there re-wiring.

Before Mat asks...
Still waiting for the trans to be re-built. End of the month apparently... must remember to ask which month. Current focus is getting the HD on the road and maybe flogging off the diesel. Loving the HD but not loving the search for parts only shock absorbers I've found for it is a set of coil overs from Yahoo Japan and I'm sure rebuilding them is gonna cost a bomb.
