thanks. i will do some more reseach. any other brands which stand out as either good value or horrible?
and another question... my aircon keeps cutting in and out (like it will work for 15 or so minutes, then just randomly stop blowing cold air (compressor still runs) and then it will come on again randomely... ... also my rear brake lights wont turn off! they are constantly on, so i pulled the fuse which turned them off, but now i have no brake lights.... either that or they are always on, which is probably worse! any suggestions to either of these random questions? |

The tread on my front wheels is really low, so I picked up a cheat set of ROH adrenalines off ebay a couple days ago, all with plenty of tread on the 205/45/16s. I figured that I'd put them on the car and take the ones on there off, sand them back and repaint them (they're black with polished lip, but atm they're a faded grey with gutter rash). Having fixed up my original wheels I'd then get some decent tyres and onsell the cheapies from ebay.
Unfortunately though, the tyre on each wheel is unique, with no two having the same tread pattern. My question is this - should the tread pattern on tyres be the same for left and right wheels while driving? |

Yes - each axle must have the same 2 tyres fitted. But front and rear 2 can be different from each other.

i agree with ryan. its incredibly dangerous especially if your a spirited driver. you really cant guage when the tires are going to let go because all of them are different. id be getting that changed asap

safety wise it might be okay, but it is illegal to have different tyres on 1 axle. defect notice...

never heard of anyone getting defected for it though. if you'll only have the tyres on for a little while just keep the driving to grandpa levels

What I think I'll do is rotate the rear wheels - which have heaps of tread - to the front, and then put the ebay cheapies on the back. Then I'll fix up the originals and get new tyres on them, and put them on the front, then fix up the other originals, and voila.
I've been driving pretty sedately recently anyway, bit annoyed at not getting any more than 450 to a tank. So with them just on the back wheels and grannying I don't think it should be a major issue... |

Even if the compound is identical, it limits tire selection to whatever the manufacturer decided you getting when you bought the car.... |

Tyre construction (e.g. radial) and size must be the same on the same axle. Although it is recommended that the tyres are identical (e.g. same brand and tread pattern), this is not mandatory. assuming they take width as being a size aspect of the tyre, driving with a spacesaver is a defect. somehow i doubt that there'd be any cop out there with the balls to defect you for it though

i think that certain rules can get bypassed in special circumstances. cus cars now come with space savers, that means that they pass Australian Design Rules as its only used for emergency.
thats just my oppinion but |

yeah, I'm pretty sure space savers are ok because they have clearly marked on them "temporary use only" "80kph max" etc.
in saying that, my spare is not a space saver, but is a different size than the rest, so technically, it's now just a space saver.

A new random question - are the BPTs in the 89-94 ford TX3 the same as in the familia GTXs?

Is it normal that my car gets a surge of power at 2-2.5k RPM when the aircon is on? As in suddenly it gets a lot more power.
