I'd been up for it also. What are the diffenrence between

1) slotted

2) slotted and cross-drilled (Golds i think they're called)

I have heard that the golds are a waste of money on our cars and just to get the slotted one's. Thanx 4 help.

Question from the technically challenged... you can just upgrade your front rotors, right?

How much difference would the slotted rotors make over the OE setup? huge or minimal?

slotteds only is the way to go.

and yes you can just upgrade the front and gain a bit of stopping power.

bite and longevity.

drilled rotors will crack with any decent amount of heat. then you'll have a stuffed rotor.

race cars use slotted rotors - that's good enough for me.

Interest so far:

1. ROB80E - DBA4545SL and DBA4545SR
2. DeeJay_RyRy - set of 4 (BA hatch, what year?)

For those who want to be added to the list, just tell me the model and year of your car please. If you see some people add "DBAXXXS", "DBAXXXSL" and "DBAXXXSR" on the list, this means Slotted, Swept Left and Swept Right (slotted). You don't need to worry about his, just specify the your car details, and I can look them up, or you can provide me with the required part no. eg: DBAXXX.

I should point out, that these rotors are not a group buy as such, I will be buying them at a discount rate from a supplier on my own ABN and reselling them, and they MAY be subject to GST (I still have to nut this out). For me to get the most attractive discount for all of you (20%) I need as many people to place interst as possible. 20% is the discount to me, any GST (10%) and handling ($5?) will come out of that, but they will still be cheaper than retail.
Postage may blow the deal for some people depending on their location. All I can say is, go get a quote form your nearest brake specialist, and when I've got the figures based on the final amount of people to get the best price you can decide from there...

1. ROB80E - 2xDBA4545S (will require a locator for the caliper!)
2. DeeJay_RyRy - 2xDBA533S, 2xDBA534S
3. Astina_GianT - please specify if 1.8 or V6
4. 323_mazdabator - 2xDBA533S

I will get some indication of price from my supplier on the weekend, but I have to address the ABN problem before I can advise the final price I can pass on. If you guys are really lucky, Andrew and I won't need to charge GST! Hopefully we won't, since that could make or brake the deal for some people denpending who they want to support...

A warning to those wanting more than just slotted rotors, Andrew's big brake upgrade (2pc 295x25mm slotted, 2pot calipers and stainless lines) will be redesigned for production soon, we just need to get it into CAD and find the right people to fabricate the parts... So, if you want this sort of deal you best hold off until it becomes available, otherwise the slotted rotors will be available in the next few weeks...

Hey Gav,

I'm interested in the "Big Brake" upgrade, but not to fond of the cost with getting a custom hat mate up. The other thing I'm having to consider is the fact that I have just bought a set of 15" rims to become my racing wheels. This means, when upgrading, I'm having to consider the clearance for the caliper when mounted. I doubt there will be any chance of me being able to mount the caliper with a 295mm rotor inside the 15" rims.

The SP (mx5) rotor is a 270mm rotor, I reckon there will be more of a chance of me fitting them and the rx7 caliper and having it fit inside the 15" rim. But yeah, it's all going to be trial and error. As I said to twiggy, anything is going to be better than my curren 230mm rotor! I think the 270mm rotor will suit my needs nicely.

It's a pitty that the 18's are gay to race on, otherwise there'd be no problem with brake size!

Oh yeah, something I forgot to mention, if the 4545S's are stupidly expensive (being new and all), can you just price me on the DBA545SL & DBA545SR (these are just the standard slotted rotors for the mx5)
