Firstly Savvyfx the minority was Ian and all the other soccer fans who cant see
the forrest for the trees. They remind me of the Amish stuck back in time where
to change a single rule is like heracy requiring burning at the stake.

I actually like soccer, played it as a kid, son plays it now. We sat down and
watched a U17 game couple of weeks ago and it was riviting to watch and not
a single dive in it. I understand that the dive is used to gain a tactical
advantage it doesn't take a rocket scientist on that one. But if you made it a
penalty to do a dive accross the board then there is no commercial concerns
as everybody loses the advantage and also everybody benefits. With the
current system you get a goal from a penalty from a dive. The other team will
adopt similar tactics to try and recover the goal they lost and its a self
purpetuating cycle. The reason non soccer fans are so adament is the answer
is simple its right there in the forrest in front of you.

You cant be a true Queenslander then Ian. I am an ex Jo Bejelki offspring
growing up on pumpkin scones, everything was cheaper and we played all
3 codes at school. Took me ages to understand the single code mentality
of inbred NSW and Mexicans. I knew about it with the Vics as the QAFL
teams couldn't play in the VFL but nothing prepared me for rural NSW in the
80's. The look of confusion/amazement on the other kids at school that I
could drop punt a ball 50-60m and land on the chest of the guy at the other
end and then the condemnation cause I used to play "Fairy Ball"

But you have to give it to both the other codes League and AFL since the
80's they have continued to improve and become more exciting games whereas
soccer has done the reverse. Watching the SBS special on Argentina during
the 70's and 80's world cups with Pele etc was much better watching than
watching recent games.

They have changed many rules before in soccer. The major one being the offside law now that a player is deemed offside only if he/she is interfering with play....(much more to it)

i know what you are saying, but im hindsight every has the ability to be a genius. Sometimes, it is just too plain hard to determine what is a dive and what is not. There are consequences that 'divers' face. They gain a reputation and sooner or later they will be worse off for it. I myself hate diver's and wish they had never set foot on the pitch

Players that dive will eventually get rubbed out of the game, but it is due to the reputation they get from doing it week in week out.

All codes have good and bad characters and moments and so on. But football/soccer has stood the test of time and it is unlikely that things will change, mush to the dislike of some others.

"Sooner or later they are worse off" you mean dying of old age yeah !!!
Whats the worse that can happen the other team gets the ball. Its not like
it happens in the defensive half whereby the other team would have a shot at
goal or anything but its cool I dont really care I was just in it for the debate

The worse that could happen is a yellow card. I've seen it happen plenty of times. The problem is, as papatonga and I have both highlighted, that it is not so easy to ping someone for diving. You are effectively calling them a cheat, and you wouldn't want to get that call wrong.

Technically you'd be the minority.

Eric Canternar now theres a real gentlemen .
Those soccer players are so above the other sportsmen of those thug sports.
Those no idea brainless gits ,if only they were smart enough they could get into a sport that if you lose its the end of the world and in some cases the end of your life.
I went to enough soccer matchs when I lived in England to know there is no such thing as a gentlemen in the game of soccer, yeah its a sport of great talent but its also a sport of solmen doing it for themself .
There is no such thing as a team player at the top lever of this sport and if you think this makes some one a gentlemen ,well the true meaning of sprotsmen is lost forever.
I was a professional sportsmen until 2001 and at professional level sport of any kind there is no such thing as a gentlemen .
All sports have there place and from a sporting point of view they are all great for different reasons...................

P.s. Its Eric Cantona
As I previously stated I played First Division for many years and I too agree there is no place for a dive (believe me I used to get in trouble for it) I would jump back up and hunt them down asap and steal the ball from them as I grinned at them on the flat of their back.
So there is no place for diving...................aggreed
But its fine to head stomp in Rugby and Spear Tackle in League but what am I concerned about here diving from a "FOUL" is the worst thing in the world
I will now write a nasty lettter to FIFA

BTW Eric Cantona in full gentleman guise
And if he doesn't like your sideline comments
