Unhappy help please - Gearbox Problems.. i think

OK, i'm in seriously trouble..

my baby is sick...
she's a 94 323 astina (BJ i think) (oh.. and manual)

i think it may be a gearbox problem if not a clutch, can some one help me identify it?

Heres the details..
1) when the engine is off/stopped i can push down the clutch and put her in gear and drive..but..

2)while driving i cannot take her out of gear (so i'm stuck in first or reverse)

3)if the car turned on whilst out of gear it is next to impossible to put her into gear

4) there is no noticable sound, though sometimes before the gears did crunch and 3rd gear has been known to slip out occassionally

5) there is no resistance on the clutch when i depress it

so there it is..
at first i thought it could be the gear box, but i have seen problems like this on toyotas with the clutch fork breaking (but thats a pretty common problem with toyotas)

so.. i'm also thinking it could be the clutch, either the master cylinder or the slave cylnder

can someone enlighten me please.. do you know what the problem is? is it common for the astina do this ??

please help..

I reckon its your master or slave clutch cylinder. Mine was stuffed a while ago too and I couldnt get into any gear. Got the master clutch cylinder replaced and my clutch pedal felt as good as new and problem was solved

I agree, sounds like Master or slave cyl.

buy brand new, dont bother with used ones, and the cost of reconditioning isnt much less than new.

Mazda tend to use PBR hydraulics, so go to Bursons or whatever and get a price.

as a very rough guide, these are what it cost me to replace bits on my 1982 626

Brake Master cylinder $180
Clutch Master Cylinder (forget exact price, but below $100)
Clutch slave Cylinder $50 or something.
