there should be a chart at the auto store that tells you

My BPT has a Z79A , I think yours will be the same.

Enter the details here and find out for sure

Z436 is the one fitted from factory.

or you can use the bigger Z79A as posted above.

my BA uses the Z436, but I use the Z79A cos it is bigger and cheaper.

i use the smaller Z436 (or VO33 if it's the Valvoline filter). being smaller it's easier to get in & out from top of the engine bay, but since you have ramps to get underneathe anyway, might as well just use the bigger Z79A.

Is there a noticeable advantage to this? ie. Should I consider going this route next oil change?

yes, the bigger size means it'll filter more crud out protecting your engine better. plus its cheaper

extactly the answer i would've given.

the Z436 is $14 each, and the Z79A is $9 each. at supercheap, you can get trade packs of 4x Z79A for $20. so $5 each.

supply & demand. the larger one is also listed for Hondas as well.

interestingly the Ryco catalogues lists the smaller Z436 for the FC/FD RX-7s

Size isn't always purely to do with filtration, it's also got alot to do with the various valving in a particular filter. Just be aware that although two filters can have the same thread etc. and physically fit, different valving can effect the motor. Z436/Z79A should be ok as that's a pretty common swap and I haven't heard of any disaster stories...

i've done the swap and regularly hit high rpms and had no problems in my ba. maybe the bg is different? the bpt uses a Z79A filter.
