Cat back exhaust system
Hi,
Car: BJII 2002, SP20 My muffler is pretty much gone so I am looking to upgrade the exhaust system. I found few options on protegegarage.com but shipping costs are crazy. Are there any cat back systems available in Australia that you know off? Custom made? Appreciate your help. P |

I got mine custom made, 2" pipe from the cat. converter to a hotdog muffler, then to a Berklee PEX muffler, and then to twin tips. Being a 1.6L, I didn't want to go overkill on the exhaust (and diameter of the pipng).
I have actually heard some nice SP20's with a 2.25" catback - 2.25" piping to a resonator and then to a Magnaflow muffler. (just my 2c worth)

Thank you for the info. I talked to one shop they are using Redback mufflers. Not sure about those

Heaps of different mufflers available in Japan from all the big names - Trust, Apexi, AutoExe, Mazdaspeed etc. There's a few JDM options that i've got in stock, too

Thanks for the info.
Rup, I am looking to upgrade the whole system (potentially getting new headers later), not just the muffler. I was thinking 2.25" piping |

I do have some Mazdaspeed headers just arrived, and there is this MS catback which would complete the setup - http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u38649538

Some quotes
Castlehill Exhaust 2.25" cat back system, this includes pipe work, resonator, muffler and 3" tip, prices start at $300 depending on selected tip, 100 cell high flow cat $300 + fitting, (Red back mufflers) Carline Gladesville A cat back in 2 ¼” press bent costs around $450.00, with a 200 cell high flow cat converter an extra $395.00 including flanges. To do the whole system including extractors etc around $ 1650.00 all up (Lukey mufflers) |

i got a quote the other day from a place called fastech mufflers on parramatta road, i didn't get told the specifics but he said $360 all up including piping, muffler and tip and installation of course. I'm just hoping my cars gonna sound good, don't want it too loud but for it to have a nice deep pur almost, anyways it goes in on friday I can let you know how it goes if you like?

Once I figure out how I'll post up what the 1.8 sounds like with 2.25 piping, and a 3" tip.
Should be enough for the 2L, or maybe look into going 2.5" with some more backpressure to retain the lower down torque? Horses for courses, try and find someone with an exhaust on one already and take it for a drive to compare to your car. I found me a Laser with a similar exhaust before deciding on my specs. Very happy with my results! |

2.25" is really enough.... that's what the racing beat catback is... in fact, it still works fine with a turbo!
for those prices mentioned, I don't think it's going to cost much more to import a racing beat exhaust

I leaning towards importing a catback from US. It looks like it would be cheaper than getting one done over here. Quotes i got are for mild steel piping, stainless steal is $700 with my own muffler. What a joke! Racing beat system is around $450 in US.

Hi,
Pretty sure RB catback is a bit bigger than 2.25" Few more updates From Cromer exhaust in Sydney "We can supply a Magnaflow system 15752 as per your enquiry the cost of the system would be $1100.00 plus fitting $250.00 he USA $590.00 so the total would be $1940.00 supplied and fitted. " Jokers! Also, finally got a response from Ken at ProtegeGarage (very slow customer service), he gave me the following dimensions for the box box is: 48 inches X 12 inches X 12 inches weight: 40 pounds Still waiting for a quote including shipment! |
